Being an accordion absolute newbie, I got myself an Fr-1xb some time ago. 4 years old and in good shape, as far as I can see. However, it runs firmware version 1.02 and I’d like to update to the latest, 1.07. Have downloaded the files required and checked the contents. One thing worries me. The disk.img file is accompanied by a diskimgsum.txt file, but running sum on disk.img produces a completely different result (”d1c8” versus ”23874 896”). In my case, the sum command is run on a Macbook.

Can anyone help me ease my worries?

I would guess the most likely reason is because your computer calculated the checksum with a different hash method. Can you post the complete hashes and/or a pointer to the actual files?

You will find both files  in the DATAROM directory after unzipping the archive.

I think that if you download the updates from the official Roland site, you should have no problems

I got the zip archive from the Roland support site, so the origin should be OK. The checksum is to assure that the download actually transferred correctly and after all, a bad diskimage may require a Roland repair shop visit to rectify.

But you are probably right.

Looking at the actual file and instructions, it looks like the checksum is calculated and truncated in a way that only the accordion firmware actually understands. I'd just go ahead and install it, figuring the checksum is there for the accordion itself to verify that there isn't corruption in the file before it starts the update process.

A checksum intended for a human to use to manually verify the file would be longer and include the hash method so you can replicate the hash creation.

I have finally gathered enough courage to do the update - and - everything worked fine!

So, thanks (both of you) for the information and moral support!

Glad to hear everything went as smoothly as expected. Enjoy your accordion.
