Hello,

I am posting this for someone who is an accomplished, professional player who is not well versed in technology. She has a Roland FR8, and finds it very straining for her eyes to see the small screen while programming new sounds. Having done so since age or 6, it has really taken a toll on her eyesight.

Is there a way to attach an external monitor or iPad to Fr8 to relieve eyestrain? Since the information is digital, theoretically it should be possible. Thanks for your help!

Download the editor and pop it up on the large computer screen.

There's no reason since the editor was released a few years ago to strain your eyes menu-diving on the horrible little screen.

Thank you Thomas N, this is of great help!

So that I pass on the correct info to her, how does she connect the computer screen to FR8?

Also, can she still use the keys on the accordion to program while using the computer screen? In other words, can she use FR8 for everything exactly as before except the screen?

Finally, where does she download the editor from? It would be great if you can send me the link.

Thanks again for your help!

1. It means she will need to have the accordion connected !00% of the time to a computer.
2. The editor is downloaded from Roland, it's free. If they have any issues finding it, a fast Google for "Roland FR-8X editor download" will bring them right to that page.

3. Since that can be a pain being tethered all the time as a paid pro, she may want to consider getting one of those portable plastic magnifiers and building a small square and glueing the plastic magnification sheet to it... makes it bigger, possibly enough so that she can read it from up close.

4. Good glasses may easily resolve the issue. Me personally, I am really close to needing them too... lol.
