Hi folks,

I’m new to the forum. I’m from Haddington, Scotland.

Was without my accordion for a couple of years and bought a wonderful midied Borsini about 6months who. Hands ache all the time (incredible how tight you get after not playing for a while!).

I’ve been playing since I was 9yrs old (36 years now!).

I’ve won the scottish championships a few times, both in scottish and classical music. Been on the BBC TV and Radio a good few times and had a successful Ceilidh band for several years...

Now...love nothing more than having a tune in the kitchen!

Good to meet you!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There are two or three members who are into Scottish accordion on here, although none of them have been very active for a wee while now.

I was brought up in Lanarkshire, but never really took to the Scottish accordion scene at all. It just wasnt my bag.

You started off at the right age, as many of us on here were rather late in taking the instrument up, and had to muddle through the textbooks with varying degrees of success.

I could probably win a few championships for blethering about the accordion, but there isnt a cheap enough metal on earth to award me for my playing.

I decided I liked French musette but never started to try and play until I was in my early 30s - far too late for most, including me. I had to teach myself as no teachers were available for anything other than 5 row CBA, and my boxes were French with 4 rows. I wasnt able to make much of it, and have become more of a listener than a player.

I know next to nothing at all about the Scottish accordion scene, past or present, and I have lived in England on and off during my 67 years. We finally retired to Birmingham last year, and I havent heard an accordion since we arrived, despite there being quite a large Irish population in the area. I am of Irish extraction myself, but never took to Irish accordion either.

Anyway, there is something on here for everybody, with a lot of knowledge regarding makes, repairs etc. There are members from all over the globe, and loads of new styles if you ever fancy trying something new. Im sure with your ability most things will be achievable.

Welcome Stew!
