I don't know much about Sofia Gubaidulina, but I do know Vincent van Amsterdam. He is definitely one of the greatest accordion players in the Netherlands.

It's only very recently (in fact since a month or so since I picked up the accordion) that I read about Friedrich Lips. Gubaidulina dedicated several works to him and I just had a peek at his impressive discography and met with famous transcriptions of organ works by Leon Boelmann and Olivier Messiaen. I've seen a most impressive interpretation of Messiaen's work La nativite played in accordion on youtube. Worth another thread ?
BTW, call me Wim, that's my real name, Aemit is just some mysterious acronym :-)

Paul, you make an excellent point.

Wim, I have listened to a bit of Gubaidulina. I think the book by Picchio - The Classical Accordion and its Repertoire, is a starting point.

My own enjoyment in the free bass instrument comes mainly from the fairly melodic keyboard (and other instrument) works. I don't particularly engage with the Russian tradition much beyond Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich.
