I picked up this accordion on a bit of an impulse and haven’t been disappointed in it. Sure it’s old, and they keyboard clicks loudly, but it plays well and this winter im planning to do a once over on the reed leather. I’ve had it on the boat for the past 2 weeks or so and have played it a fair amount. The biggest issue I see is the one reed set in the bass (pointed out in the picture) has some tuning issues. I was curious if anyone had any thoughts why this set would be affected while the set that’s in the more concerning orientation from a storage standpoint is ok?

Interesting reed blocks. Is it normally stored on the bass feet? If so, it appears that the internal leathers on those reeds would be pulled by gravity away from the reed plate over time. That could effect tuning and response. When is the last time it was serviced and tuned?

I normally store it on its feet, but I haven’t a good idea of how its been stored by previous owners. The reeds that you’re talking about aren’t the ones giving me concern. It might be hard to see in the picture but the ones being pointed at are on the side of the block.

Based on how quickly the straps broke when it arrived it’s obvious it hasn’t been played in a long time and definitely not serviced. Like I said once I get more time in the winter I’ll pull those reeds and check/replace the leathers.
