Here’s an excerpt of my in progress new arrangement of The Final Countdown by Europe, a classic 1980s pop song.
The song is naturally in the key of F# minor, which I definitely didn’t want to play in on my 72 bass main box, never mind my 48 bass wee one! It also thus has three sharps on the right hand side. I made my playing life much easier, and also 48 bass compatible, by switching my arrangement to the key of A minor. I also moved some of the notes around octave wise, again thinking of making it 48 bass friendly. Oh and I added right hand harmonies to try to enhance the tune.
I haven’t decided yet how I’m going to wrap up the arrangement. It is still in progress. But here’s where it’s at right now. Played on my 72 bass 41-year-old Paolo Soprani piano accordion. Luckily my neuro illness was complying hand wise, and re bellows control (I lose my usually automatic skills sometimes), albeit leaving me somewhat light headed! But I am pleased with how it’s sounding. More work to do.
