Well spotted @Pipemajor , Horace does freely admit he based the tune on tje changes of SMTWTGHome...
There is a section/change dropping from Bb to A7 for one bar each... And the "value 3" bass set up we were caught up on the other day makes this possible in a logical and intuitive fashion.... ?

I'm persevering with the 3/3 setup you suggested and gradually getting used to the root on the 3rd row and it's beginning to make sense, although ti doesn't bring those distant chords any closer
