Just in case anyone else may be facing this milestone, here's an update on my personal cataract story ;
A while ago I mentioned I'd had a cataract removed.
I've now had the second one removed and
had my post operative consultation (re cataracts) today; excellent results (both eyes). Discharged as cured!🙂
(Still have a course of eye drops to complete.)
Have made appointment with optometrist for reading glasses for late next month.
Everything is in perfect focus from about a metre out to infinity. I can even read the print in the newspapers and on my iPhone
and sheet music, as long as I keep them at arm's length, but I'll be getting reading glasses anyway.🙂
In the meantime, I've got some +2 cheap reading glasses from the chemist: they work very well.
I'll even be able to drive without wearing glasses, again!
All In all, the results feel quite miraculous!❤️

Dingo40: Congratulations on that; I hope the results are long lasting and you feel the benefits for years to come.
I had my right eye done a couple of years ago. I was lucky; no complications and the whole process was a minor miracle.

Excellent news! Did you find that colours were more vibrant too? That was one of my relative's first reaction, that the colours were all very bright again and white was a rosy pink.

Had mine done couple of years ago, it was getting so that I could not drive because of razzle effect from headlights.
Recently have had to have both lasered because they went cloudy, think it happens in10% to 20% of cases, takes about 20 seconds and everything is clear and bright and colourful again

That’s great news Dingo, congratulations! My optometrist has been telling me for years that I have the start of cataracts in both eyes. I’m not sure if I’d prefer to continue as at present or look forward to not having to wear glasses for distance since I got my first pair aged seven, either way it’s not up to me as on the NHS they won’t do the procedure until it’s absolutely necessary.

This is a problem with national health schemes: they don't provide until you've died!
I know I've been lucky, as operations of any kind can be chancy at any time, but this is worth having, given the opportunity!🙂
Best of luck with yours when you have it!🙂

Gongrats and best of luck Dingo!

Thanks Colin, that's interesting.🙂
The things you find out!🤔
Here's something about it:
Thanks everyone for your interest and kind thoughts!🙂

I am very happy! I'm an optometrist and curious to know what kind of IOL you had implanted. From what you describe it sounds like an EDOF, right?

I can't comment on National Health Schemes outwith the UK but here (UK) it depends very much on where you live.
Currently, here, because of yet another COVID-19 spike, the large number of medical staff off sick, and an expected surge in COVID-19 and seasonal flu patients, all "elective" surgery has been postponed yet again. ( Luckily, being medically insured, I wasn't affected).
There's people waiting for years for all kinds of painful and incapacitating conditions on endless waiting lists.
"Elective" simply means you're still conscious and breathing, even though you may actually die of your condition.
At election times, all kinds of promises are spruiked but, once in government, only to be forgotten yet again !😄
Recently, we've had patients die in ambulances while waiting for a bed in emergency departments .
Of course, there's always politically more popular issues to use the taxes on than public health matters.😄

Incredibly, the hospital near me has just installed a large extractor system, as so many ambulances are routinely queing outside with patients, engines running presumably to power the medical kit.

Ric,
I was given a card with #CNAOTO +22.5D clareon iol and Alcon on it.
Maybe you know what that means?🤔
It's out of my league!😄
PS,
I found this:
n, EDOF lenses provide a more gradual transition between different focal points, which can result in better visual comfort and fewer visual disturbances, such as halos and glare.
But, I really don't know enough to answer your question.🤔
No matter what it is, I'm quite happy with it.🙂

I had cataract surgery a few years ago. Lots of visits... one for each eye surgery, measurements, follow up visits, etc. I had laser surgery which cost $3000 US for both eyes...it was worth it. Excellent vision at working on computer and distant...able to see details. Needed glasses for closeup reading... 20/40 vision with the glasses. I had a few annual checkups and the lenses are still in place and working well. Got a good pair of Oakley sunglasses.

Great news Dingo. I have just been advised to have mine done by my optometrist; all very positive, apart from waiting lists etc. Best get thing moving before any UK Winter crisis not the NHS.
