IMG_6780.jpegIMG_6781.jpegIMG_6779.jpegJust bought this Horner for 10 dollars! One key stuck down. (Fixed) And when I opened it, to clean and or repair anything, that I noticed leather reeds that need to be replaced! Any suggestions, on the best leather reeds, for repairs?

Welcome and congratulations on your new (for you) accordion!

I am all in for fixing old accordions (and accordions in general, just look at my recent threads 😁 ). But I am a beginner on that, so can't tell you too much yet.

But I think some pictures of the reed blocks will help a lot. Could you post them?

Best regards,

Jose

I’ve bought reed leathers from Bossetto accordions, and have been happy with them. I’m sure there are other suppliers out there.

Your accordion is at an age that if the original reed wax hasn’t been replaced yet, it’s probably getting brittle (ready to start letting reeds fall out the next time it’s played or jolted in a car ride)

Thanks for responding! My new retirement hobby!

Thank You Ben-jammin

I see some rust on the mechanism for the hi/lo switch. If there is any rust on the reeds you’ll want to clean it off before you re-valve them. Rust is heavy and it will change the frequency the reeds operate at, causing tuning issues.
