Hello--Greetings from Wellsboro, Pennsylvania!

I have a beautiful Iorio Bros, made in New York vintage accordion that was recently restored. It was my Grandmothers. I used to play over 50 years ago and am re-learning now. This is the first time Ive ever posted so please bear with me if I dont get it right.

Im seeking information on this accordion if any information exists. I know it was made by Agusto and Amedeo Iorio probably in the 1920s. Its a fine instrument, LMMM, with a sweet sounding musette. You can hear it played by going to http://www.libertybellows.com and checking their repair page or by searching you Youtube for something like gorgeous statue of liberty Iorio accordion priceless.

Ive searched but can not find another accordion like this. There may not be any but maybe someone knows of one that might be similar. Thats what Im asking for now. Ill try to attach a couple pictures.

Thanks.

Loren Nowak

PS--Sorry but the pictures didnt upload because they were too big and I dont know how to change that.

I can't help with the questions but that's a beautiful instrument.
You must be really pleased - well done for taking the trouble to have it brought back to life.
I'm sure you'll enjoy rediscovering the music.

Thanks for checking out the accordion. I am pleased and I'm glad I had the work done. Better to play it than to have it sit around in its case.

It's fun and I'm (re) learning. It's a pretty heavy instrument! I kept the old, thin straps but had new straps put on. Makes it much nicer!

Lovely - really nice on the 'Torna a Surriento'. Congratulations.

Soulsaver--

Thank you! I love this accordion! I see that you post often. I'm bettin' that you are an accordion guru so I have a question for you.

This old Iorio is HEAVY and that's OK but I'm thinking that by next summer I'll be looking for a smaller accordion to take on the back porch and play and practice with. Have any suggestions? Or should I post this question someplace else on the forum?

I've looked at some of the smaller and lighter PAs with fewer bass buttons. Some only have 2 rows of bass notes and only major and minor chords. I like folk music, waltzes and 4/4 so I think I would miss the 7th chords. It will probably be a long time until I outgrow C, F, G and D so an accordion with a smaller range of keys but with the 7th chords might be perfect for me in the summer.

If you get a chance you can email me directly or let me know about posting this question someplace else.

Thanks!

Hi Loren

Guru? Nahh, there are loads of people on here who know more than I'll ever know - some play & do repairs for a living while I just 'pooter' & learn... often off them.

Having experienced another accordion forum 'fall', I like to do my bit to try support this community.

It would be worth a search on here as there has been a few discussions on lighter models and a range of opinions is better than just one.. and you are welcome of course to start a new thread for it, from your own perspective.

Best wishes.

Thank you. I really like this forum and I'll probably seek advice and opinions before I get a smaller lighter accordion. Thanks again.

My limited experience with these older models has been that they are fairly light - You may like to give us an idea of how heavy it is?

Beautiful accordion, congrats. Looks like you know what you are doing. Probably you are best off going out and trying them until tou find what you like. Good luck, Tom

Actually, this one is quite heavy. I dont have any way to get an accurate weight right now but my best guess is that it is between 30 and 35 pounds.
