Hello everybody and all the best for the new year.
I am in hope I can get some suggestions in what to do with these two accordions.
the Scandollii I have owned for 50 years, purchased 2nd hand and now is not healthy inside.
The Galanti, serial No 12925 I know nothing about as it was owned by my late brother, also
not healthy inside, I also think the case is not original.
I don't know if they could be repaired as for their age and in a lot of ways I hate to think what the cost would be.
I cannot hang on to them anymore, I feel I would be haunted for the rest of my life if I put them out to a rubbish tip.
Can anybody please help me with giving them a better future?

Kind regards
Toby

learning to fix stuff up ? these would be worth his
coming to get them.. both good candidates for
refurbing.. gaskets.. leathers.. wax.. and they will
sing nicely once again

Hi mate and thank you so much for your time. I'm not very good in selling things that don't work like they should. I saw another post here about what things need to be done to have it singing again :) at the moment l will take things slowly and see what other posts come in, again thank you for time.
Regards
Toby

Hello Ventura, and thank you so much for your time. I found out today my Scandalli is now 63 years old. If that is all to refurbing to have it singing again l may look into getting that work done :) at the moment l can only do things slowly. Thx again for your time.
Regards
Toby

The Scandalli may be worth something even after getting some basic repairs done (really depends on the internal state which we cannot see). The Galanti is a basic student model (just two voice) and therefore not likely to be worth more after repairs than the repairs will cost. You could donate it to a charity for instance. The Scandalli won't make you rich (it's a 3 voice model, pretty decent but the market is flooded with such 3-voice accordions), but it is likely worth something.

Hello depra and thank you for your time, l got a post today saying about refurbing. I got in touch with Sue Accordians Australia this afternoon. I feel now l want my Scandalli to be fixed, l am also taking the Galanti in as well but l really don't care much for it even though it is from my late brother and was autistic, l don't know how he got this and he would have never played it......
But the Scandalli was a present from my father 50 years ago and it means alot to me.
I was so saddened when l picked it up over Christmas and it was hard work to play it.
I thought it was finished, completely broken.
Thankyou so much for getting in touch with me, since l have been on this sight l have been so much happier.....

Welcome Toby! I am so happy that you want to restore and play the Soprani. In my humble opinion, there’s nothing wrong with selling the Galanti on one of the online sites as long as you are honest about the condition and ask a far price that reflects that it in not in perfect condition.

Hanging out on this site is known to be good for the heart and soul.

In fact, it can be therapeutic, second only to dancing to accordion music, so I wish you the best of luck and leave you with this video “Ballo Terapia” (Therapeutic Dance):

Hi Toby I was going to suggest an accordion group in Australia. I am glad you got in touch with someone about your accordions. I too am new to this group and finding it very helpful. I restarted playing my accordion last year and got onto the teacher visiting our town. After my first lesson our friends who were visiting noticed a change in my demeanor, I was happy and light. All the best with your refurbished accordion!! Lydia

Hi Tom, thank you for your reply. The Galanti l don't think l would be selling, may leave with Sue as l feel she may have better ideas for it or use for spair parts, but l hope she can get my Scandalli working properly again. I was recently curious of its age as l have had it now for 50 years. Something made me look into his photo album as l remember seeing a photo of him with an accordian as a youth to see if this was the same. My father was in some German youth group where he played.
I listened to the video you sent, oh my God LoL l have never heard something like that before, l only remember things my father played which was like German songs and tempo. He played by ear and played with his friends at the Herbertus shooting club out at Badgeris Creek. I also played by ear from what he played. Unfortunately l never got addicted to accordion, occasionally over the years l would put his photo in front of me and play to him for hours as l had to remember how to play some of his melodies.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share this with you.
Kind regards
Toby

Hi Lydia and l must add what a beautiful name. Yes now that l found out and hope my accordion could maybe still be fixed l definitely don't want to part from it. I think l damaged it when l had it in the garage for a few years with my home renovations and spending so much time painting the hole house, and then forgetting to bring it back in.
Guitar ls my main instrument, the only time l play my accordion is to a photo of my late father who gave me this accordion as a birthday and Christmas present when l was about 15.
My father played accordion and at first l learnt to play by ear from what l heard him playing, unfortunately we never played together. The accordion is a very special instrument, it's amazing the output it can give in feel and mood. I hope to have this accordion fixed and play to my father what ever years l have and then take it to my next life, like the Egyptians did :) And maybe see my father again and play it together :)
Thank you so much for your post, l hope you start to enjoy now that you picked it up again.
Focus you and your accordion as one when you don't need to memorise what you are playing. Xx

Thank you so much for sharing your story and pictures Toby! I’m glad you’re getting your accordion fixed up and I’m sure it will bring you plenty of joy. Keep us informed of how it goes. I am glad you like the song I posted. That type of Italian accordion dance music is of the style “ballo liscio” which you can find a lot of on YouTube. Have fun!
