"The first accordion-type structure was devised by Christian Friedrich Ludwig Buschmann in 1822. In 1829, Cyrill Demian came up with the innovative idea that formed the basis of the accordion as we know it today. This was the idea that a single key could produce a functional chord. But it was only in 1844 that the English inventor, Charles Wheatstone, patented an instrument with the pre-set chord system, with a keyboard and bellows.

In 2024, you’ll find instruments with a wide variety of systems, keyboards and configurations. The main influence is the Russian and European manufacturing styles. Despite the accordion being a portable instrument with a powerful sound, accordion makers have tried to hone its amplification using microphones, extend its range through a midi connection or even use other kinds of untempered tuning."

As happens often in life, the stories are that someone may invent/create something first... then someone "creates" and registers/patents it and gets credit for it. Cyrill Demian first documented and used the word ACCORDION, so technically, he created the accordion as far as history is concerned. :)

It's all a lie anyway. Free reeds... You'll pay £2k for a new set of a-manos...

As far a s I know, a regal has single beating reeds like a reed rank in a pipe organ, which is why it sounds more like a duck than an accordion. The resonators are just very short so they can fit into the instrument.
It sounds like a duck call because its made out of natural reed and wood. What I m trying to say is there were a lot of organ type options to think about an accordion than Sheng. The difference of accordion is the one button chord making.

Classification is the issue. Is bandonion an "accrodion"? No: it doesn't have a one-button-chord.
Well, is a one-row diatonic melodeon an "accordion"? It does have one-button chords...

If you still want them, at that price I can pull them out of my Excelsior and I'll ship them for free ;)
haha... no, thanks, basically there are not enough reeds in the Excelsior. I have an extended keyboard on the right hand and there are the Free Bass reeds and it's a 5/5 on each side. I was thinking about replacing the reeds with original 1961 Gola reeds... I know where the complete set is, but as I said... it is expensive, plus I have a complete Gola now anyway.

Fascinating, saw the PA version of this accordion, never saw the CBA version. Still kinda doubt it holds Gola reeds… or does it? On another note, if it was a PA, I might have considered making an offer, but I don’t play CBA and it’s too late in my life to consider changing. :)

Cagnoni a-manos.

How do you prove that Gola reeds are (or ain't) Gola reeds though?
