I have now. Very nice show. Maybe get a copy of his new album.

Will Holshousers doing great work with Regina Carter. Malagasy accordionists like Régis Gizavo are among my favourites in the world.

We did an episode of Accordion Noir radio a few years ago that (over-) ambitiously tried to touch on accordion traditions all around Africa. Im certainly no expert so its only a start

Heres a short radio ad for the show: http://accordionnoir.org/drupal/node/78

And the actual episode: AccNoir-2008-04-11, Pan-African Accordion http://accordionnoir.org/drupal/node/85

The playlist was:

<FONT font=Garamond><SIZE size=125>I heard it last week. Will is an excellent accordionist. Now I know that he is also quite articulate as well. I only wish we could leave out the sound effects when demonstrating the abilities of the accordion, but I guess its a necessary evil....
Bravo!

I thought this was an excellent programme -
passionate accordionist with a fresh approach and an interviewer who also does a great job.
Many thanks for posting!
Find them on line too:

(I put this on the Events forum too, but Ill add it here too:

Will Holshouser wrote me to say:

Thanks, glad you caught it! [the NPR show] I had a lot of fun ... yeah, she was interested in a variety of accordion music, I liked that angle because thats one thing I like about the instrument ...

Thats great that people mentioned it in the UK forum. Ill be playing at the London Jazz Festival with Regina Carter this Saturday (Nov 22) if you think they might be interested. http://www.efglondonjazzfestival.org.uk/events/info/regina-carter-yazz-ahmed

[So, if youre near London, I cant recommend the show enough. Reginas blending of jazz and classical violin with African instruments (and Wills accordion) is simply wonderful.] More: http://www.reginacarter.com/

Bruce-
Thanks for your detailed response. I am a fan of Accordion Noir and a podcast subscriber but had not made it that far into the back catalogue yet. Your African accordion episode was excellent! The music was great, of course, and I especially appreciated the context and your humility in honoring the unique cultures and histories influencing the music. This might be like trying to choose your favorite child, but would you recommend any other must-listen episodes from the archives?
Thanks,
Joe
