Does anyone know how to work out the age of a piano accordion? I've got an old stanelli but it has no codes or numbers or names at all and it's missing a front panel

By lack of any reference numbers it's impossible to determine the exact age of this accordion.
But I would certainly estimate it to be "past end of life".
haha no it still has life it works just needs fixing up it sounds quite lovely actually

Hi Kai and welcome!šŸ™‚
In my opinion, there's really only one way to estimate the age of an unknown make of accordion and that is to gauge it by it's stylistic features (like you would with cars, clothes, aeroplanes, and buildings)šŸ™‚
Looking at yours, I'd say it's pre-WWIl, from the 1930s.
As you say, given some TLC, there could be plenty of life left!šŸ˜„
Some would say this type of thing would make an ideal project for an introduction to accordion repair!šŸ˜€
Unfortunately, many people are unwilling to spend the time or money to do the necessary renovation.šŸ˜
It appears to be missing it's (rather attractive) fretwork metal treble grill.
However, a competent home handyman ( or someone with an old school panel beater friend) could probably shape a replacement from expanded metal sheeting. šŸ™‚

Thank you!

I actually just found some sort of code on it. As you said a few months ago, not many people are willing to put the money or time into an accordion to restore it. I'm willing to put the time. I just don't have the money. So Im probably committing bad things in the accordion world as I'm using a 3d printer and hot glue, but it already sounds a lot better than it did. No unwanted notes or anything.17229460868156142649003482562396.jpg

If at any point you decide that you're not going to work on this box any more, I might be interested in the bellows and the bass-side mechs.

Just sayin'. šŸ˜‡
