this is really great and technically very difficult too
as i get older (and I was brought up on considered articulation of every note) I do tend towards a more legato approach on all instruments for a more singing line in treble and bass. i.e. trying less hard and concentrating on flow and the big shape above all else.

I agree. It actually sounds more musical if I played the bass melody legato. But the sheet music had the bass notes marked staccato.
I'm already straying away from the sheet music. I'm playing the bass an octave higher than how it's written. So I can make more modifications and okay the bass notes more connected.
Try the right hand a bit more legato too and less mannered so it sounds more natural id suggest. Breaks in sound are fine but there needs to be a musical reason otherwise its cats on hot bricks!
