Dead lucky?🤔

I attended high school in Milford Haven and at the time the Castlemartin firing range nearby was still active.
There has a lot of material from which to make "Trench Handicraft" imitations etc. as well as lots of other useful things from the brass casings which got smuggled out of there.
How the heck they got some of the larger shell casings out of there I have no idea, but the commonality of the shapes of umbrella stands, plant pots, chicken feeders, bird baths etc. etc. indicated that the Ministry of Defence (War Department?) was certainly not getting its "bang for its buck" nor "the full quid" from its scrap metal sales.
