I had already practiced for about 2 hours when I started this. After addressing problem spots in Badinerie, I did ten repetitions. The first repetition came out pretty good. As I kept repeating, my fingers started to go sore and the performance gradually deteriorated. At this point, I'm debating whether doing repetitions is actually a good thing when I'm already tired.

Re: " I'm debating..."
In my much more modest experience; if you persist it's possible to decide that you know nothing at all.

After two hours of practice my mind is shot and I do not do well at learning and incorporating new things. Much fortitude is needed for a 3 or 4 hour gig. The mind/hand connection is tenuous. How long do you do the airport gigs?

About two to 3 hours. Those are not as stressful as practice though.

In my Experience, I'm not a professional player or have any musical qualifications but I have played a lot of gigs in my 75yrs !! you have become tired ie fingers /wrists etc . You start off well for a number of times then the accuracy drops off , Good sign of tiredness ..have a break play something easier not so demanding .Enjoy some easier .music ....My view, is little and often Enjoy your fine accordions have fun !! Don't make it a torture.
Life is too short ........ Enjoy making Music you certainly have the ability and Talent .
PS .....Badinerie ....... is a great tune to play, heard it played by some top accordionists ... I will not name them !! but one thing they all had in common was this, NONE BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN BECAUSE OF THE Rapacious applause from the Audience. and shouts of more !! . and this was at an accordion weekend in the UK ....
The man that brought the house down was an old pensioner who just stood up after ..the virtuoso player had finished his set .
By playing "DANNY BOY " on his Mouth Organ !!................ This is a true Story, I know because I was There !!!!!!! in the audience .

Out of interest do you get paid for this Air Port gig ...................No way do I want to know the fee . is it a charity type gig , is the booking thro and an Entertainment Agency with a contract ? for an agreed fee , if no Fee do you have a tips/ collection jar that is clearly visible for people to put money in the Jar !! for you! .
My last question is of even greater interest to me .. DO YOU HAVE PUBLIC LIABILITY insurance .... if so, How much and the Value of Liability?
Also if using any electrical equipment that is plugged into the Airport power socket Can you produce the up to date test certificates to prove that your equipment has been tested .........in the uk we call this testing PAT TEST ie portable appliance test........Don't know what you folks call it in the USA .....................I would be very interested in your reply ........................All this applies to even playing in Care homes , Theatres , Village Halls , Shopping Malls (Shopping Malls are RED HOT on this requirement ) in the UK and will not allow you to even set up your equipment without them seeing the test certificates and details of liability insurance ............
I would be interested in how my friends across the pond and also on mainland Europe ....handle this situation .

Great effort though. I think you need some softness while pushing the buttons. From the nearest point with less effort possible. That may come in time with experience (not easy). Dont hit the buttons, just push with soft hands. You will see better results. :)

Yeah, thanks, good idea.

Never good just doing repetitions. If you want to make your performance more resilient the way people do it (on all instruments) is to play it in a different way. This can be crude, ultra slow, or faster than you'd perform. My way of making things bomb proof is to play it dotted or even swung in either direction. I've seen most pros practice like this when you have to play live under pressure and going wrong isn't an option!

That is a very insightful suggestion.

I tried this. Really smart suggestion Murathan, thanks. You know, I never thought about how hard you use your fingers can have a real effect when playing a long set. Plus relaxing the fingers probably goes a long way. Noted.

Also Ben’s suggestion, definitely worth a try, seems effective.

One thread, 2 great ideas. Why this forum is worth it to wade through all the posts about acoustic versus digital. 😉😉

This suggestion has been given to me so many times but I'm not able to do it. I've tried to change it but it's so hard because there's so many other things to focus on while practicing a song.

Say Breezy, any idea how many tunes you play in a 3 hour gig?
