Anybody see this Reddit post about a Soviet-era instrument with valve-stiffeners made of reused material with tiny human faces imprinted on it?
Discussion in the comments that they may be made from old printing plates, or film stock, depending on the material.

These booster springs are made of old (mylar or celluloid?) film, either negatives or slide film. New bayans still come with the same type of booster springs, albeit typically without actual images on them.
