I don't remember ever seeing one on the forum πŸ€”
People danced to these when I was a boy πŸ™‚
One such popular dance was the "Military Two Step" a "progressive " barn dance kind of thing.πŸ™‚

It went something like this:

Once, a platoon of us (volunteer militia) "weekend warriors " came upon a dance in a country town and joined in, wearing our uniform (as we were on a weekend bivouac)
We very much enjoyed the company ( many attractive lasses), the supper and the dancing ( including the Military Two Step) but I very much regret our hobnailed boots didn't do the polished wood floor much good 🫀

I remember them well from when I was a young boy in Scotland.
Broons Reel, Strip the Willow, St. Bernard Waltz.
All the girls sat at one side of the hall and all the boys on the other.
When a dance was called, you rushed across the room to ask the girl you fancied most if she would care to dance.
I vividly remember the dejection if you were declined πŸ˜“

The 'Military Two-Step' has been popular all my 4-score and a bit life. Always a great opportunity to play some rousing military music, mostly in 6/8 time. To the best of my knowledge the dance in Scotland is 'imported' from south of the border, in England, where I seem to recall much more refined versions of the dance where the male actually saluted to his partner at one stage.

Ah, then you'll be old enough (like me) to remember the rude Scottish version that had the words
"all of a sudden a great mealy pudden came flying through the air.
Did she duck, did she", I don't remember the rest :D

All a matter of taste of course but 'Alte Kameraden' is probably the most popular of military marches everywhere. It exemplified comradeship at its best, in difficult circumstances, for any army. I enjoyed the Andre Rieu version because it was not only a musical masterpiece but a visual one as well. Sadly this video does not seem to be available anymore.

Pipemajor: The words of the song were part of my early education as well. The music is, of course, 'Blaze Away'.

When I search for Andre Rieu/Alte Kameraden on Google/YouTube here this is what appears: alte kameraden youtube

I have found this site useful for military music: https://bandmusicpdf.org
Andre Rieu is of course the ultimate musucal showman.
Who else could afford the many thousands spent on the lavish sets and sheer numbers of performers .
