I've got a friend who is soon to be leaving the country and is willing to give me a 111 bass accordion for free however when i look at the bass section it looks to be of a different shape. are the buttons and layout the same?

i've never heard of a 111 bass accordion before

could be meaning a 3 voice accordion rather than 111 bass!

The only boxes I am aware of with odd bass numbers are the Shand Morino button boxes. The 40 button version had 105 bass and the 46 button version 117

that's very interesting as , like the Shand Morino ( also made by hohner) it has the bass flattened at the ends i.e. 9 buttons short of the normal 120 to allow the box to be more compact. I have not seen this done on a piano box

It has the normal diagonal rows of 6 buttons exept at the very top so for all normal purposed you have counterbass, bass, maj, min, 7th and dim chords.

It looks to be a nice box and certainly well worth having for free!

forgive me im a noob but when you say flattened do you mean physically or as in the sound when i say physically do you mean that the buttons are flatter or arent quite as tall? as well as this other than the accordions where the bass buttons are left to right rather than diagonal eg. http://diato.org/img/diato1_demandez_autorisation_pour_utiliser_cette_image.jpg
are all the bass buttons all the exact same?. thanks

yes bass buttons all the same just 9 are simply not there at all when compared to 120 bass! This gives a squared off appearance to the bass rather than the normal diagonal rows all the way up .

the box was more compact than 120 bass and was marketed as a ''youth'' box . The squared off bass worked well for Sir Jimmy Shand who make hundreds of recordings selling in thousands on the 'squared off' 105 and 117 bass Shand Morino boxes
