Just musing ...

that's pretty cool..

now i think a bit more they started doing a yearly FR contest
at Roland the third year.. i seem to remember her being
a contestant in maybe the second or third one but i was gone
by then

as i recall, Linda came on the scene first as a physical therapist,
then apprenticed with Helmi for a time, and was helpful to
many people with wrist and muscle issues (on RMMS)

but as for the Roland, she didn't get involved until the 7x

not surprised they asked her to help them at NAMM.. she
is a dedicated and capable musician among other things

as for Solton/Ketron, i would just remind you all that
they have survived and outlived their contemporaries,
ELKA, ORLA, GEM, SIEL/Roland Europe, and for good reason..
Are you sure? Because I know of another Lynda that is a physical therapist that has published two books about hand injuries (for accordionists). Her bio mentions her work with Dr. Helmi Harrington.

Unless I'm mistaken (if both of them happen to be physical therapists), this is a different Linda.

John, I think you've been spending some time in the Fisa PDF files and to me look like you are going to be the first one here in the forum to get one! :D

We should make a contest... FIRST ONE to get a FISA has to make 2 videos of it in action playing a tune within a week of getting it! :D :D
I hope I'll get mine this month. Is anyone else waiting for delivery?

I'm actually not surprised, but I am happy for you... looking forward to see you with it! :D

No, I was never really in the camp for a Fisa, and now that I am starting to hear more and more about the little things it's missing (no bowed bass, no computer editor, scenes don't save FB settings, etc...), I'm actually happy that I didn't start that ball rolling. I'm feeling that for me, it would be more about accepting the compromises of the Fisa than a true full out upgrade to the 8X and I am seeing that the 8X still has a LOT to offer me that I've not even yet touched. :)

Pretty much in the same camp, and I was really trying hard to find anything about the Fisa that would warrant a switch from the FR-8X.

Have you seen the Korg videos going through the menus? Those long videos really turned me off. Very clunky interface and so close to Roland's that I feel a ton of cross-over was involved in making this instrument. It's evolutionary rather than revolutionary, and barely evolutionary at that.

It's developed by the same team. One of the aspects I'll be evaluating is the bellows action. I'll be playing it side by side with my Evo. I'll make use of the return period to find out if I like it better than the Evo.

According to tests done by Uwe, it is not worlds better, but it's an improvement.

My understanding was that it is significantly better but still not identical to the acoustic. The bowed bass seems to be a glaring omission. The dealer told me that the team has been receptive to feedback and will be sending out software updates.

Really looking forward to your reports back to us, Breezy.

The Uwe videos are very valuable. He really goes into detail about the intricacies of the bellows and compares them directly with his Evo and an acoustic. The acoustic wins hands-down to me on every test, obviously. But the Evo is right up there with the Korg. Uwe also did a "complaints" video about issues with the Korg and some are small, and some are no-brainers that should have been addressed and perhaps will.

The bellows on my FR-8X have never bothered me. They do what I want them to do but perhaps after 10 years I'm just used to them and would really notice a superior action.

And finally, I just received my FR-8X back after a month in the shop for the MIDI board replacement. Man have I missed it!

I wandered over to Petosa and found downloadable files regarding Preliminary Specs and Orchestra Tones.
There doesn't seem to be a great deal of information, although the "Tone and Drum Kit" list is intriguing.

The current Tone List shows a Bowed String Bass in the Bass list (the second page of the list).
It's not clear, but I suspect the documents are also prototypes.

Comments from Uwe also say the same, but we will see what they choose to add or not. Adding tones is easy... what Uwe is asking for will likely require massive code changes, and just not happen. Time will tell.

Not much, not the best sound, but it does exist :)

That was the pre-Covid model. It was a very limited production run that sold out quickly and was never continued. The newer model’s specs and tone list have yet to be published. Proxima is supposed to hand Linda Herman a prototype of the new model, which she will use to control a Ketron arranger in the Ketron booth.

Linda Herman posted today on Facebook. She didn’t post many details because she had a very limited time with the accordion. But the picture was of her holding a Proxima accordion.

Wow, what the heck was going on here?? Was the Ketron not responding to her selections or was that someone else beside her that was screwing up her sound??

Her face said it all, embarrassment and frustration.

I guess we could wait for Linda to tell us, but the lady has more class than that. Also, she knows her way around setups like that, so it had to be the accordion or somebody else messing with the equipment.

Sounded to me like someone was playing a keyboard not far away from her and the recording picked up both

Right now there goes a live stream:

Linda is playing now, go slightly back to catchup the beginning.

P.S. Sound distortion is fixed, Linda is playing better and better.
