Hello!

On the 'E' bass buttons, the very lowest, deep sounding reed only sounds when the bellows are pushed together, and not as they are pulled out. Dare I ask if there is a DIY fix for this?

It's only a minor problem, but it is getting quite annoying..!

Thanks Jim! I imagine it must be a little piece of dirt, the rest of the accordion is A ok :D

Wood shaving is the usual suspect on a Chinese accordion, I believe.

The China made reeds also have softer metal reed tongues and will corrode easily with moisture, and the unfinished interior construction of these boxes will tend to absorb moisture and retain it and thus accelerate the metal reed tongue's corrosion. Dirt in a reed tongue can be blown out, but rust will require repair or replacement.

I hope its not rust.. I'm still mustering the courage to open the ol' girl up :p

Would I be correct in assuming its the same reed which sounds on both bellow movements? It sounds very deep and rich when it does sound.. I hope that means it most likely is not rust :s

People go to the trouble to find the exact page you need, and post a link to it, making it easy peasy for you. But when a question like this follows we think you havent bothered to read it... The danger is they then start to ignore your questions...;)

Point well taken! I'm a bit nervous about opening it up, they're so intricately designed.. I feel like I'm about to service a jet engine.. Haha! Oh dear..

I'd play it for a while if it's intermittent, it could improve. But in those circumstances I'd advise a you start a conversation with ASW, too, incase you ultimately need to return it for repair.

I know it's off topic Ed, but what does ASW stand for ??

Hi Jim - He (Jon?) bought the instrument from Accordions South West - reputable UK dealer/repairer, teacher & pro player - well known on utub as Bunelik (Basil)..

I had a read of the website- it looks very complicated! I sent Les from squeezydoesit an email asking for his advice and he's been very helpful indeed! He sent me a list of what I need to do, and has asked me to phone him if I have any trouble :) what a champion dealer! He's certainly got a customer for life in me, thats for sure :)
