The Accordion Society of Australia (Victorian branch) is undergoing a bit of a rejuvenation and one of the things they'd like to try is an informal social gathering where you can bring your accordion (no obligation of course), socialise over food, songs, accordions, meet new people, connect with teachers and repairers, etc. You don't need to be a member of the organisation, it's open to anyone who'd like to attend, regardless of abilities, genres, etc. The goal is to simply provide an informal setting for accordionists and fans of the accordion to connect.

Details for the gathering:
Open Studio Cocktails Crepes & Bar
Saturday, 26 August 2023
1:00 pm 4:00 pm

In the near future a new website for the ASA and social media accounts for ASA Vic will be launched as well, which will hopefully make it easier for accordionists in the area to keep informed on events and updates.

(Additionally there is an Accordion Festival being planned that will be hosted in Melbourne later this year, which I can post about once there are more details made available.)

Quick update if everyone's interested. It went really well, over 50 attendees and many accordionists including new beginners joined, got out their accordions, exchanged sheet music, met the local repairer, discussed all things accordion, and so on. Here's a short video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fesgKKnqOZM
We will organise another within the next 2 months or so.

Great to see new blood entering the scene.

We honestly had no idea for the expected turnout. For all we know it could have been 5 people or 50. This event, and the World Accordion Day held a few months earlier, proved that there are so many accordionists lurking in the shadows in Melbourne, and all we need is some meetups to bring them out into the open, and bring them together. Again, it was such a supportive environment and I can't wait for us (ASA) to hold more of these.
In response to your question, I'm the one on the alpine looking accordion, standing up, playing Valzer di Mezzanotte with ASA Victoria Branch president Anthony Schulz (sitting, on his amazing Sonola).
