It is now the 23rd day of Advent, and thus the penultimate post from me, as tomorrow is Christmas Eve and the final day of Advent. I extend my gratitude to everyone for accompanying me on this journey and for allowing me to learn so much about various Advent and Christmas carols and hymns. There have been some carol renditions that were truly memorable, not because of who was playing or how well they playedβthose aspects do not matter to me. What matters is that many people around the world went out of their way to create and share music that captures the essence of the true story of Christmas. It has been an enriching experience for me, providing an opportunity to 'awaken' in the lead-up to Christmas and focus my gaze on that manger in the stable.
So here is the fantastic piece, 'Silent Night' ('Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht'), a world famous Austrian carol with lyrics written by Father Josephus Franciscus Mohr and set to a tune composed by Franz Xaver Gruber.
Here's a simple and lovely rendition on accordion.
