NEW Hohnica sour note question

Possibly, you could enclose the accordion in a box, or plastic garbag, along with the baking soda in an open container: that could do it

That's the problem.  I'd think you'd want to stretch out the bellows since I think that is what has  absorbed most of the odors.   I've got it stretched out in a basement room now and it's stinking up the whole place.

The bass is pretty awesome tho.  Is that a Hohner thing?  Would new or bigger be even better>

MG,

"I've got it stretched out in a basement room now and it's stinking up the whole place."

I once had that problem with a leather jacket.

Eighteen months airing in the garage on a clothes hanger cured it! :)

Our garage is much too dirty to leave a fine "German" Hohnica in it!   :sleepy:

Well I sprayed it with some Fabrize and it's getting better. I play it a bit every day and the bass is awesome!

But that dodgy E drives me crazy esp on Valse d'Amalie where it ends a phrase. Musette is really bad. Clarinet is bearable but where's the fun in that?

I put it up to the tuner and and one point clarinets both said +5 or +6 but musette was -9 or something. ?

Now I'm noticing that the E1 on even the new Weltmeister sounds a little funny. And another box I picked up.

Really noticeable in Valse d'Amilie because a phrase lands on that E twice.

Is there something about E in theory/harmony that would make perfect pitch impossible throughout the scale?

I thought I had seen such a discussion somewhere.

O.K. the Welti has a bad sounding E1.
Your ??'s need some clarification (1) are these PA's (2) what shift or voices are you using.
The German Welti's and Chinese Hohners are of mediocre build quality and ( sorry for the negatives ) cannot be expended to perform as Semi or Pro Models of accordions.

"You were only ripped off if you paid a lot of money for the accordion in the belief that it was made in Germany."

Yes the ad said Made in Germany. As it is I can't prove one way or the other.

Anyway I wouldn't mind cigarette smell but this is more of a musty thrift shop smell.

Would it help to stretch it out in the basement for a few months?
You’re in Montana! We have fresh air. I sat on my deck and played this 1960s Iorio for an hour a day to get rid of the mustiness. Fun and easy.....smells fresh now.

Montanagirl,
One of my accordions was always giving trouble with the b flat and the f sharp notes in the middle octave ?
Happily, working OK at present ?
One suggestion by my tech: "Pump the bellows using the air button several times before each session."
Maybe that did it, but it's been good for some time now. ?
