Glenn; There were many posts on reed bending on the late and former UK accordion site that most of our first time members on this site were members of . If you care we can expand the topic here. Regards: Jim D.
 
My father used the thumb under the key technique as early as the 1940's. His last two accordions had special registers that played a bassoon reed with a half opened slide. This made it much easier.
