From what I understand it's not possible. If it is that would be so Great!

I am willing to pay for such information if it's out there!

It's been asked for years and it is not available from all that I can see, but there are a few people out there that have put in the time and expertise to share their results, like Richard Noel.

I do not (yet) own an FR-3x. So what do I know? But...

Typically, real-time editing from an external device would be handled using "sysex" (system exclusive) messages over the MIDI interface. I see by the MIDI implementation chart in the back of the manual that the FR-3x neither sends nor receives sysex messages, which would make that method impossible.

It looks like the USB port merely mounts a storage device and isn't set up as any sort of controlling interface. If so, then that method's out too.

These two things lead me to believe that real-time remote editing is not currently supported.

Thanks Jim. I have had a couple of conversations with Mr. Noel. When I purchased his sets. About a year and a half ago. I asked many questions that he answered. Just did not want to abuse his good nature or ware out my welcome. Maybe he has come up with something new?

Again thanks to all!

And Rolands response to people who have asked them directly is that they dont ever have any intentions of making it possible either.

Again that just shows where the accordion sets in there minds. I have friends that play guitar and can not only load and adjust there amps from USB but can also edit from there phones.

But that should not be a surprise, it's been like this since day 1, when the first Roland V-accordion came out and has never changed. Roland is a huge company, and the V-accordion generates like 1% of their total revenue or less, so it goes to reason that this is not where they are going to invest their time in.

No surprise! Mostly wishful thinking.

I can pretty much guarantee Roland or no one else will design such a system unless it's asked for. Over and over enough to warrant the cost of such a system. I guess one can only hope that sum one else will make such a box and take that one percent away. Competition would most likely make it better for the electronic accordion consumer world. The old saying the squeaky wheel gets the grease sort of thing. If there was enough chatter about it, maybe and only maybe it might change.

Still just wishful thinking.

Its a minor miracle that they even sell the thing in the first place, IMHO. I cant imagine it being very profitable for them.

It can't actually be that complex if they have made the correct "hooks" available in the midi specifications. Does anyone know if these are present?

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, that is the main reason it cannot be done, they dont want to do what it takes for this to become possible. The application that they use now is just basically a list of options that one can change and adjust and not even hear until you upload and play on the Roland and this application is not made by Roland, but a 3rd party.

As Jerry said, Roland does not want to. Not that they can't! They intentionally set it up this way. They also made it so certain things could not be copied.

They have the technology to do it my Roland Juno less than $1000 keyboard can be edited by USB real time from computer. To make us do all the work from a 3 digit screen in this age is just ridiculous to me.

Still it's about the best option out there for a standalone digital accordion! If not the best!

I'm just greedy and lazy. I want more or at least easer!
