HI all, I recently bought Roland Fr4x, I wanted to download the editor to set up the Accordion to my own taste in instruments etc, but I only have a Samsung Chromebook laptop, the site appears to only have downloads for windows/mac style computers, has anyone else encountered this problem, and does anyone know of a workaround rather than buying a new computer?

Wasn’t Ventura giving us a source of $79 new laptops? Probably work. Or take your fr4 to a quiet library or community center with computers. Bring headphones or play a couple tunes to make their day.

yes MicroCenter is in the USA.. they do still have some..
i was up at the Rockville store Thursday for parts..

the problem with these old Student Laptops now will be
that the battery has sat for several years without being charged,
so i would think charge it up in stages the first time

some will still be OK but some may not..
3rd party replacement batteries are available

also, i do not know if the unlocked Sim card slot takes
any Euro chips.. T-Mo and ATT sims work in them here
(and they are 4Glte not 5G) or work on WiFi for internet too

not all of todays laptops will run the Java based stuff.. i also
have a Samsung Windows 11 laptop but it's an arm based cpu so
Windows is kind of running Virtually i think.. these Samsungs
have a 5G sim slot though and run really fast for everything else

for T-Mo phone customers, an unlimited laptop line
is a lousy 20 bucks a month for unlimited data, literally anywhere
anytime, and wicked fast.. Deutsche Tele and Vodaphone would
be the likely compatible SIM providers in Europe

Thank you, this may be helpful to some, but I am in the UK, so will look locally, to be honest I was more looking for a workaround If one was possible, I don't mind buying another laptop or computer, but I was looking for other options as I wouldn't have any use for one other than using the editor.

If this Fr4X editor, is like all other Roland editors, your computer must have JAVA installed or the editor will not work.

Thank you, I'm not sure what java is, and i don't know if my computer has it installed, but I will check. Thanks.

JAVA is an underlying program that runs the 4x editor "behind the scenes" on your computer. The editor will not run without it.

I read all the replies. How much customization are you looking at performing? Seems like a ton of trouble to get a laptop specifically for the editor if you are going to make a few UPGs or change some system settings. I did all that on mine prior to the editor coming out when I first had my FR-8X and it's cumbersome, but not unrealistic.

Of course, once I got the editor I changed the heck out of it often.

I need to adjust the balance of the orchestral sounds Bass and chords,
as some get lost in the mix, and I like to play a bass line along with the chords, rather than a basic oompah style, also, although I can set up the user programmes, it's a very slow way of doing it, with the editor I could audition the sounds and balance far more quickly
