I have previously managed to run the set editor on my windows 10 laptop but cannot now run it on Win11?
When i double click the FR7X_FR3X_FR1X_Set_Editor_1_01.jar file, i get a quick flash on the screen but then nothing?
Any ideas what the problem might be. (I have the latest Java on my system)

Thanks
Andy

I may be mistaken, however the set editor doesn't support windows 11. After all the Roland product line is quite old and there haven't been new developments for some years now so I'm not surprised that there's no support for windows 11.

OOPS... I wrote the following, then reread your message that said you had Java installed. Did you reboot after installing Java? If so, I don't know what to say, except try reinstalling Java and try some other Java programs to verify that it is working.

That ".jar" suffix tells you that the Roland set editor is a Java program. Programs like this are independent of the operating system, so there is nothing Roland has to do to support Windows 11, but it requires the Java runtime programs for your operating system. You need to install the Java Runtime Environment on your Windows 11 machine.

The following instructions are in the pdf manual for the set editor:

To run FR‐7X/FR‐3X/FR‐1X SET EDITOR you need a computer with Java(TM) version 6 or upward
installed on. Please download the latest Java(TM) version from http://www.java.com (Free of
charge) and install it

Thanks for the info, I did reboot after installing Java but the same problem occurs.
As soon as i double click the file, It apears to be trying to open a comand line window for a few milli seconds then it dissappears!

You could try running "FR7X_FR3X_FR1X_Set_Editor_1_01.jar" from a command prompt window. Then maybe you would see the error message without the window disappearing. Use DOS commands to change your current directory to the one in which you have the jar file. Then just enter the name of the jar file.

It works just fine on Win 10 and 11. :)

It's likely something to do with the USB drivers or accordion setup.

I could not ever get it to work reliably on Windows 10, regardless of Java version and it was the same issue on desktop, laptop etc.
The program would "freeze" and as you drag the window it would multiply itself. Not that this helps if you don't use a mac, but never had issues running the editor on it.

Uninstall Java, uninstall the editor... go to Device Manager, delete the USB hub, reinstall the USB hub via plug-n-play, install JAVA, then the editor, reboot. Test again, make sure to test out the 2 different USB settings in the V-accordion to see which one works best for you.

Hi, I'm not very conversent with the dos system, when i use command prompt i get this:- C:\Users\bfgcu>
I previously copied the Jar file to this directory (i think)
I'm not sure what the > part of the address means. I tried deleting the >, but it wouldn't let me.
So I added the file name C:\Users\bfgcu>FR7X_FR3X_FR1X_Set_Editor_1_01.jar but this didn't work either
I got this message:- Error: Could not find or load main class C:\Users\bfgcu\FR7X_FR3X_FR1X_Set_Editor_1_01.jar

Maybe you could help?

If you follow along in the video that I made step by set, it should work fine... if not, then let me know. Right now the error message you show is telling me that it doesn't know where the JAVA application is located or it cannot find the application (are you trying to run a JAR file from within a ZIPPED file? It won't work!).

You don't need to use DOS, you should know how to download, install JAVA and then how to extract the file, and run it... just as I show in the video. :)

I am using an FR-1X accordion, and can't see why i would need to delete a "USB hub" to make the editor work! I only use the USB port to transfer the edited files to and from my accordion after running the editor.

The file has previously run successfully on my win10 laptop. I have re extracted the Jar file to a directory and tried to run it but it doesnt run, i thought i could try running it at the command line but i'm not very experienced in that field. I have watched your video but it hasn't helped.

You are definitely making a newbie error if you are still getting this: "Error: Could not find or load main class C:\Users\bfgcu\FR7X_FR3X_FR1X_Set_Editor_1_01.jar"

Maybe you might want to come to the ZOOM meeting that Tom is doing. That way we (read "I"), could see what you are doing via a screen share and find out what you are doing wrong (if anything!) and offer a possible solution.

What zoom meeting is this?

I'll try to make the Zoom meeting while i'm an holiday in the Canaries. Will there be a link inviting people to join? I guess my log in time in the Canaries would be 5pm for your 11am start?

I'd love to try my best to see if I could help... I do not know what your time zone would be, sorry... Google can help you with that. And yes, Tom usually posts a link in the thread about an hour before the start of the event.

Hi Andy! Yes, I will post the link in the thread that Jerry posted, called “2025 Forum Zoom Meetings” shortly before the meeting. (Trying to keep out spammers by not leaving the link around all the time.). 😢. It will be 11:00 AM Central Time, USA, you can convert it to your time zone. Look forward to seeing you. Jerry is the man. If he can’t figure it out no one can.

I had a little problem initially getting the 8X Editor to run on my PC with Windows 10. Here's what I did:
● I put JAVA in the Root directory (C:) of my hard drive.
● I also created a folder (named it Roland) in the Root directory
● In the "Roland" folder I have the file "FR-8X_Editor"
Unless I set up this "path", it seemed like I couldn't get the Editor to load -- I would launch "FR-8X_Editor" and I would get nothing.

Thanks guys for the help. I'll try and drag myself off the beach to join the meeting LOL. Hopefully we can figure out the problem

as one possible solution for anyone fighting Windows 11 or
any unruly computer.. this new laptop which was designed and
built for the student school market, is still being liquidated

less than the cost of a Windows 10 license (lol)

i have a couple, dedicated to specific purpose now, and i have
passed out a few for nieces and nephews.. rugged and reliable

for less than 100 bucks set one up to use with the set editor
and fugghedaboutit for the next 5 years, it will do the job for you
every time you pull it off the shelf

only tip: if you leave it running 24/7 put a timer on the power supply
1 hour on 3 off around the clock. Lithium batteries last longer that way
