Royal Academy of Music Public Masterclasses

There are a number of masterclasses with the classical accordion students at Royal Academy of Music, London this academic year.
The masterclasses are over two days, the second of which will be open to the public (to observe, not play).

The public masterclasses and the visiting professors are thus:
Raimondas Sviackevicius (Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre) - Tuesday 8th March 10am-6pm.
Matti Rantanen (Sibelius Academy, Helsinki) - Friday 22nd April 10am-6pm.
Janne Rättya (University of Music and Dramatic Arts, Graz) - Wednesday 25th May 10am-6pm.
Bjarke Mogensen (Denmark) - Tuesday 21st June 10am-6pm.

No tickets required and all free of charge.

I used to go to a few of these when I had more time. Though I will never be playing anywhere near that standard, these are very absorbing events, you get to hear about music from a top musician, you really get into the music and you can pick up tips that you can apply as well. You have to concentrate but I did find them a bit special.

4 visiting international accordion teachers and masterclasses at the RAM in London, all in a few months time, great opportunity for accordion enthusiasts.
The next is with Matti Rantanen I see.
I wonder how many accordion students the RAM has in 2016. The website of the RAM accordion department has an accordion alumni section mentioning the year of graduation.

Playing at the student concert on February and a lunchtime concert recently were Bartosz Glowacki, Ben De Souza, Inigo Mikeleiz-Berrade, Iosif Purits and Katariina Ahjoniemi. That would be about the right sort of number compared to the usual but apologies if I've missed anyone.

Thanks for the extra info on the present RAM students.
Its a positive thing the RAM students come from different countries, inspiring place to study accordion.

The present playing standards are indeed very impressive, if I look at the players left hand in this free bass piece:

Just had a look and according to Pigini Hanzhi Wang gives "offensive yet sensitive performances". Joking aside it is a real privilege to watch these up and coming talents, anyone who can get there, I recommend it.

Just had a look and according to Pigini Hanzhi Wang gives offensive yet sensitive performances.

I went to a recital at the RAM in London a few years back and heard a Japanese woman play a piece called Melodica - it was very technical but sounded awful (it didn’t warrant the name). I looked around the room and everyone was nodding wisely and I thought, mm……. this is the king’s new clothes all over again. :lol:

But I would second what Matt says - :tup:

Joking aside it is a real privilege to watch these up and coming talents, anyone who can get there, I recommend it.

The repertoire at conservatory level is very large, from renaissance, baroque to modern and avantgarde music.
This baroque piece interpretation on the accordion by a Polish accordionist:
