Hi, I bought a Royal Standard 120 note from my local hospice. I don't know much about them and don't play as yet, but it was too beautiful to leave on the shelf, it looks much better with the other instruments I have collected. Basically it has the Royal Standard crest which is like a shield with a Lion and a Unicorn on it. It has no other name on it apart from the word Foreign engraved in the vaneer. On the back it says made in Germany with what looks like a serial number. The colour is black with white mother of pearl and gold grill. It also came with a really old case. Can any one give me some advice on how I might track down the model or age or even where I might be able to look up the history of this company. Thank you.

The serial number is usually a sigil with a large number in the middle and some smaller numbers underneath. If that's the case, what's the large number?

Royal Standard is a Klingenthal (or very close) product from the GDR from before the time where all brands and factories were consolidated into Harmona/Weltmeister.

Hi Dak

Thanks for the reply. The number is simply 9864 nothing else on it apart from that. Looking at others on line they seem to have names like Momtana etc but this just says foreign.

Thanks

Pictures? "Foreign" would be a strange thing to write on a German product, so I suspect that the word is actually something different.

Hi Nick and welcome to the forum.

The Accordionlinks site http://www.accordionlinks.com/manufacturer.html#m:royal_standard suggests the following - Royal Standard was the brand of Zuleger & Mayenburg from Brunndöbra, Germany. [MH] .

A quick google search shows quite a number with lots of photos. Do you have a photo of yours?

On ebay there are plenty - http://www.ebay.tv/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_sop=12&_nkw=royal+standard+accordion&_frs=1
One seller in Germany who says he is a long-standing accordion repair man advertises his accordion as a Welmeister. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Weltmeister...582869?hash=item2eee2f73d5:g:4VoAAOSw1DtXELZw
So does one of the Bulgarian sellers - http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOP-Royal-S...286269?hash=item464c26417d:g:6PsAAOSwiYFXD9KQ

It may be that Zuleger & Mayenburg were an accordion maker that was taken over by Weltmeister so depending on its age it could be either. Hard for anyone to answer without photos.

Thank you Dak and Truthinbeer,

I am new to this, can I add photos on this forum?

Hi and welcome. Yes you can add pics: If you scroll down a bit on the 'reply' page, lower left you'll see an 'upload attachment' tab. If you find your pics won't load it'll be likely they need to be reduced in size.
Or you can use a photo hosting site & post a link.
