I'm curious why the upper shoulder strap bracket on a Morino is located on the back of the treble box, rather than on the top? Any suggestions...

I don't know why the "Gardinenstange" (or "curtain rod") bracket was ever used. It does not provide the best support and the leather straps are always a bit at an angle so they wear out faster than on properly located and angled brackets (found on other accordions). As it is a single bracket its strength was often questioned but I never saw one fail. Many people have fitted "normal" brackets and do not use the "curtain rod" bracket.

I have several accordions ( of different makes, eras and models) each of which exhibit different shoulder strap brackets and different bracket attachment locations

I'm glad you mentioned that some people have fitted normal brackets Paul, because that is what I'm considering doing. I suspect that the location of the 'curtain rod' is making it impossible to adjust the straps, so that the back of the instrument sits snugly against my chest. (Yes, I do have a back pad). There's always slight gap, and it tends to wobble around a bit.
