I know this has surly been discussed but… is it obvious that the right shoulder strap touches, pushes, presses, against a lot of players necks? I’ve been taking note, watching videos. I play a full size 120 bass PA. Having mine bothering me after I installed a back strap, the question I’m asking, why don’t they move the upper right shoulder strap attachment over to the right a couple inches to give your neck some breathing room? I use some nice Italian Petosa straps they sell and when sitting the accordion rests on my left leg. Without the back strap, sometimes a shoulder strap will slip off my shoulder while flipping music or shifting around so I like the back strap, the accordion feels more part of me, always in the same place? Comfortable except for touching my neck. Any thoughts as how to move that right upper shoulder strap away from the neck? Do they make anything, straps that remedy this?

They do, actually. I've seen several (piano) accordions already that come with an extra strap lug mounted behind the keyboard (straight from the factory).

I bought some straps that are shaped with a cut out for your neck. A subtle change but a big improvement comfort wise! I did have the advantage of trying them on my accordion in the shop before buying

One of the things about some posts on this site that I find problematic is that frequently an item is extolled and displayed with no information about the maker, the seller, or anything else that would allow one to look into it. Petch, can you give me some details about the straps? I have the same problem, and would find the details useful.

Thanks, the ones I have, have a very little amount of this. What shop did you find these in?

perhaps more important in the long run is having the strap
mounts done in such a way that each strap has it's own pair
of mounting points, allowing for a more perfect balance
and angle for each strap

Spano accordion was one dealer that always took the time
for each customer buying a pro accordion to size, test, and
custom mount those chrome pieces for the size and weight
and body of the accordionist.. much like fitting a suit of clothes..

you CAN more or less do one size fits all, but geez it is
so much better to finesse it to perfection.. i mean they
presumed a customer would be playing the damn thing for
the rest of his life.. compared to the bit of work and effort to
mount things thoughtfully, a great return on investment

do you have a good accordion tech handy ? have him pull a couple
spare mounts off of old junkers and work with you to figure out
a better way to mount your straps.

ciao

My mind is already thinking along those lines (retired machinist, fabricator, with lathes and milling machine and tooling) I know I can make a copy of the ones on the accordion out of stainless that would look original, strong, pretty, it’s just the thought of drilling a couple holes in the beast that would be hard to do! I even thought of just a single post that would side load the strap over, only one hole for that.

I was trying to get a Gmail email address one day. It was astonishing how many Jeffs, Jeffreys, Jeff Schraeders, etc exist in the world. I didn't want to be Jeff2347659@gmail.com! In frustration I muttered to myself: "It's just Jeff here! Why can't it be simple?" In French that would be "C'est Jeff ici" Taking out the punctuation it became cestjeffici and Gmail and I were both happy. Pronunciation: SAY JEFF E C

You can add punctuation as much as you like. Gmail considers punctuation to be meaningless and ignores it. So when someone sends mail to cestjeffici@gmail.com or c-est-jeff-ici@gmail.com or c.est.jeff.ici@gmail.com that's all the same and goes to the same mailbox. When long time ago I tried to become paul.debra@gmail.com I found out that I could not, but also not pauldebra or paul.de.bra or paul-debra or paul.debra or any other combination of punctuation symbols injected, because Gmail just ignores all punctuation. I guess it does make sense because end-users would always mess up punctuation symbols and potentially send mail to the wrong person.

Email addresses can be exploited, used to start conversations. As with Giovanni for example.
I named my consulting firm Circles of Clarity (jeff@circlesofclarity.com) and that too evokes questions.
I have a vanity license plate on my Jeep Wrangler: YTPFL - which always brings up questions. I use jeff@YTPFL.com for my mentoring practice.

On my Instrument i have 5 positions at the top where I can fix the straps, 3 have been added by the previous owner. I’m not using any of the original positions, they would we very uncomfortable!

This is what I came up with, a small stainless pin, about 3/16”dia. with a rounded head that a leather band slips onto, that side loads the right shoulder strap over enough to give my neck some room. So far works great and only one hole was drilled. I glued a leather wear patch to keep the strap from rubbing the top of the accordion.

This is indeed a problem with the design of most accordions. I solved this by adding a bracket to the top of the keyboard. I also have two back straps. The top one keeps the left strap from slipping off my shoulder.

Hi folks , I ordered mine as per the the link Petch shared with us (thank you ) they arrived within 3 days of ordering very prompt indeed .
I have not even opened the packaging as yet as I'm recovering from ADT (hormonal treatment for a tumor on prostate ) and radio therapy 5days aweek for one month. .............it has left me very tired .....(all the men on the list for treatment are all in their seventies !!) the waiting room for treatment is like an ol boys reunion club !! ha ha ...
I was told last week that they cannot detect my PSA .......and that I'm in remission ...keeping my fingers crossed . I have had a few surprises with side effects ...but this is an Accordion forum !! and is certainly not the forum for this information .
When I'm feeling stronger I will try the New Straps and let you all know what I think about them.

I would just like to advise all MEN on this forum to get an Annual PSA blood test ......it's vital !!!! do not put it off ............... if you are of a certain Age request the test .!!! it's a silent Killer!!
it is more important ................than even playing our ACCORDIONS !!

Sorry to wander off Topic ......................

No prob Gio, I wish you the best of recovery and health in this area, and thanks for the advice. Honestly though, I believe you are bringing down the average age on this forum! 🤣🤣
