Test drive on my Korg Fisa Suprema

Can the vibrato be triggered with aftertouch? Can you vary it with key pressure setting? Or maybe use of velocity?

The test I've always heard is this:

Turn the instrument over. If beer pours out of the f-holes, it's a fiddle.
All right, while we’re all “strung out,” it’s time for a short quiz:

Q. What’s bigger, a violin or a viola?

A. Actually, they’re both the same size, but since the violinist’s head is bigger, the violin looks smaller than the viola😀

My kid’s first viola was smaller than a violin. Just sayin’. I still have her full size one but I never play it. One of these days….

My niece sings, plays piano, guitar, violin and viola. Her fav is piano, but she prefers the slightly easier to play viola over the violin. From what I have seen, the viola is a good size larger than the violin. :)

On my 8X I actually play a song where I turn off and on the organ vibrato with nothing more than a harder press, so at least on an 8X, the answer is yes. :)

Jeff Cook of the band Alabama. Played a 5 string fiddle. The fifth string was a lower C string.
Guess for more music variety?

I had a thought, can you trigger vibrato with the built in accelerometer? Leaning left, right or front, back?

Hmmm… likely yes, but not sure. I think I saw a demo somewhere about this. But more importantly, does anyone really want this? *IF* I was in the market for a FISA, my suggestion gets rid of that left hand slider and the gyro-related stuff. That’s flashy but near useless… how many songs would one use them with… 2? My left hand fingers are pressing buttons, no time to stop and slide around, and I often move my body a little… last thing I want is for the darned thing to go completely out of tune as I am feeling it and move… on top of that, the range of movement to make it work completely… your back had better be flexible and in shape… lol

Much more preferable to have a computer editor, more and higher quality sounds and more possible sound combinations, but that’s me, and I am not in that market. :)

Generally speaking, yes, a full size viola is bigger than a full size violin. But they overlap - like a “lady’s sized keys” 41/120 can be smaller than a 34/72 in some cases. Even though you can only produce 2 notes at once (3 on a flat bridge fiddle) the violin/viola is much harder to achieve decent sound than an accordion, in my experience. Accordion and viola make a good duo combo though.

I fully agree. I'm sure you can do it via the Fisa accelerometer, but as you "lean in" to change position, when will the change in sound really "Kick In"? I do a Vibrato/Tremolo change very often on my 8X. When I want it to happen, I want it "Right Now".

Me too. I demo'ed this in one of the Zoom meetings for us on the 8X, if you recall? I can do it literally mid-note if I wanted and no need to press on a pedal, no body lean in any of the 4 directions, no need to slide my finger across a bar at the top of the bass... lol
