My mother has been solving all sorts of mysteries on ancestry.com and we have found out some stuff about her but few of our matches respond. I was hoping some of my own research might be fruitful.

Hi Will,

The reason I mentioned trade directories and theatre archives is that someone, somewhere may be able to share a memory or two with you.

It is not inconceivable that a person of my age (for instance) could have known your Gt. Grandmother in their youth or early adult life. All you have to do is identify that person or persons.

Some of her former pupils could still be around ......... you never know. If you can find them, they may be able to furnish you with more information than you currently have, or put you in touch with someone who can.

Trade Directories & Theatre Archives are a good starting point.

Kind Regards,

Stephen.

Please forgive my ignorance but where could one find trade directories or theatre archives? I assume one would have to know which theatres and clubs she played in?

Must Rush,

Will Brunner

Hello Will,

I'm not sure about the systems you employ in the US for access to local archives, but trade directories are usually available for research purposes. The same is probably true for theatre archives, so it is really just a question of contacting a few theatres (preferably older ones) to see how they may assist your search.

Newspaper theatre reviews may also provide a useful source of information, as would newspaper advertisement columns. If you have any friends or family members who are detectives or former detectives, they will be able to steer you in the right direction.

I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavours.

Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for all your help! I will certainly do some digging.

Great pics, I've not even got a picture of my GGM - never mind with an accordion, love 'em..
And welcome.
