I thought it might be useful to provide some you tube vids of the various types of morris dancing to compliment the sound clips . In other words to give an idea of he aim of the music
-

North West you tube rivington morris

clog step you tube Camden clog

rapper you tube Newcastle kingsmen

border you tube Dartmoor border dancing at teign house pub 2011

Cotswold you tube Cotswold morris ( the first vid that comes up is the one I like)

Morris in its verieties also features on the many you tube vids of folk festivals eg Whitby , sidmouth etc.

? are there any youtube clips of American or other non UK morris sides?

We were out in Lewes with the Hammersmith Morris Men on the May Bank Hol weekend - they are an absolute joy to watch. Heres a neat example of their style:

Their website describes their tradition as Southern English.

Thanks for alerting me to the Vancouver Morris Men, I live here so I'm going to seek them out.

Their musicians are quite accomplished, used to perform on their own, and made a CD or two, under the name Jiggery Pokery. Cant find any recorded examples online.

Also keep an eye out for Tiddley Cove.

There was a question on another thread on how to protect your accordion in damp weather - heres how. This is a mixed Cotswold side dancing a Border dance on a very wet evening. Inside the pub. Between the dartboard and the ladies loo, to be precise. Last Tuesday. Yes, thats my side, and in the words of Michael Stipe, thats me in the corner.

The tune is a butchered version of the Flowing Tide.

Brilliant! lovely to see all the smiling faces. For the benefit?! of anybody watching this and wanting to join in the fun there is a morris side somewhere near you ( but sadly not near me in Anglesey). Its great fun , provides a great social life and beats weightwatchers any day as a way of keeping fit! Most sides welcome new dancers and musicians and even those who want to be a bit of both! to find your local side go to http://www.morrisfed.org.uk

For anyone who has yet to experience the wonder that is the Bacup Britannia Coco-Nutters, heres a clip:

Absolutely brilliant to watch and unlike anything else Ive ever seen. They are also the only male side that I know of which has a garland dance.

One of our local sides - Star and Shadow Rapper from Newcastle at Whitby this year...

Plenty of space for them here but Ive seen them dance in very small spaces before. Definitely worth a look if theyre in the area.

definitely worth watching! 2013 was another great Whitby week- roll on next year!

I second Georges comment about getting involved and if anyone lives reasonably near Bedford and wants to help me accompany Hemlock Morris, feel free to PM me. I could do with some moral support and extra oomph with the music.

We play mainly Cotswold, but with some Border thrown in and we wear Black with green and purple, in case anyone is allergic to mainly white outfits ;o)
