xmas question

Howdy!
I have been taught that 3/4 is mostly bass-chord-chord. But when I listen to this (with music in 3/4) I get confused. Suddenly its like they play 3/4 in a different. Perhaps chord on 1. How can one get this feeling with the accordion? I just wanna play songs I grew up with.

If so, it does get a bit squirrely between 1:36 and 2:00, but its still staying in 3/4. The accented beats in the melody fall in unexpected spots, and the phrases are taking up five measures instead of the usual four or eight (and theyre resting on the final beat of each five-bar phrase). But if you count/tap along youll see that the time signature and tempo dont change.

At 2:20, 3:40, etc., it does slow down for a few measures, as jazz mentions.

its in a steady 3/4 rhythm throughout. its easy to establish this by tapping 123.123 whilst listening to it.. use 4th finger to tap 1 = bass note and 3rd finger to tap 2 -3 = chord chord!. just as you would if playing the bass.

Whatever bass notes or chords are actualy being played in the recording there is a strong um pa pa or 1-23 rhythm and if this changed at any point the 1 -2,3 tapping would not fit eg if it went into 4/4 you would instinctively change to a bass- chord or 1 -2 tapping motion

Its ver common in 3/4 accordion music to do so. Isnt it? Or is this just a Swedish/Scandinavian thing?

Yes but...I do hear chords on 1. Might be chords in the RH? Am I right?

perhaps better seen as possible right hand ornamentation. The point I was trying to make was that the 'underlying rhythm' is a steady 3/4 throught the tune , that not being effected by any additional twiddles on either end!
