Our third Zoom for 2024 will be this Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 18:00 UTC. I will post the link here.

I will not be recording the zoom, but if someone else wants to I am good with it.

Hope to see you soon!

I'll be there in spirit, but because I work on Sundays, sadly cannot make it... but enjoy the chat, the good people and discussions about our most loved accordion! :)

If anyone does capture it, please post here!

The next one will be back to Saturday, Jerry, hope to see you then!

Thanks... heads up 11:00am to 3:00pm is BJJ time for me, only time on the weekend I have to roll.
Maybe we can start a little later? Or keep going until you’re done?

Hi Tom,I’d really like to sit in but when I look up utc time I can’t make sense of it. I am at est..any idea when that would be for me to sit in?
Thanks.

Sorry to hear that Alan, but glad you can make it.

Thanks Jeff! I'll keep trying as long as people are interested.

Hi Tom,is the gathering starting now?

It was a good zoom, thanks guys! We had a small group of 5, we talked accordions, did some troubleshooting and some of us played a few tunes.

We’re thinking of trying a Friday next time, the 16th or 23rd. Open for suggestions.

First feedback on my recording attempt: I did not checkmark "leave temporary files" or "create separate audio files for each speaker". Zoom stopped after the end of the session for half an hour cooking one audio-only file and one video file, and the video file contains pretty much the gallery view I had on all the time (probably makes sense since that would be the data arriving at my end). I'll probably leave the temporary files in place next time and see whether that leaves me with more flexibility in creating the end result.

Now one thing that occured to me is that we have a recurrent problem with audio setup for Zoom sessions once someone wants to showcase a bit of what they are working on (with mere speech, Zoom's defaults appear to work reasonably well, but as soon as music comes into play, it can become kind of obnoxious with "you don't want to hear this noise, I'll mute it"). Since we have quite a bit of fluctuation, it is to be expected that this will remain a part of the party for a while to come, and it takes a bit of common time to sort it out (kudos for Tom for walking people through: he probably has a complete map of the Zoom menus in his head by now). So maybe we could schedule an "audio test" session half an hour before the real session where people can try to get their audio working. And it does not need to be Tom who does the coaching here.

I may even be able to convince my system to play "echo chamber" and just send back whatever it hears with a 5 second delay. That should allow people to get feedback on their setup without tying up anybody else's patience or time. Personally, I tend to be happier wasting an hour on getting something right on my own than solving a problem with assistence in 10 minutes. So I consider it possible that also some others might appreciate a dumb echo setup for trying out things.

Of course I have no idea what the limitations in terms of Zoom hours may be here. If we do rotations on "free accounts" here, we could probably avoid this ending up on Tom's bill.

I'll probably try cutting something representative from the hours of stuff I have here, and given every participant's ok might even be able to put it out to people who are undecided yet or haven't been able to make it.

If it's a Friday, I do not care the time, I will make it work... the only thing that would keep me away is a medical issue for me or a family member.
I may need to bring back the Zoom setup upstairs again that I had before just for the fun of it, so if anything I would be futzing on the V-accordion. :D

Kudos that you tried to record it David, but sometimes simplicity is the best... a simple screen capture using something like Camtasia would have been more than adequate and setting Zoom to "focus" on the speaker... but thanks for trying. :)
