2024 Goals Zoom anyone?

Let’s stick with Sunday and see how it goes. Problem is no date or time works for everyone. Don’t worry about playing, Dak, we’ve got limited time anyway, so probably mainly chatting.
Oh, I wasn't thinking about playing. That's kind of what Youtube et al are for. More like demonstrating a point, comparing sounds and controls and stances and technique, nothing that would exceed a few seconds. Otherwise it feels like a teetotaller meeting without anything to drink (not even tea). Feels a bit unanchored.

I'm still suffering from laryngitis, but I've put it in my diary... hopefully I'll be able to do more than wave at you all!

Just a reminder that the zoom is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, Jan 7, 2024 at 18:00 GMT. I will post the link here tomorrow morning. Looking forward to seeing/meeting you all!!!! 🪗🔜❤️

Thanks Jeff. I picked a weekend day hoping more people would be available. I’m ok with going with Sunday, January 7. How would that work for everyone else?
Future sessions on Sundays could work for me. I am flying home form Paris tomorrow so this Sunday is out of the question for me. I look forward to the second session.

Thanks Jeff. If the first one goes well, and there is interest, I will continue with regularly scheduled meetings. Have a good flight, hope you had/have a great time in Paris!

BTW, I have decided my goal for 2024 will be sight reading (which will necessitate some back to fundamentals, Jerry 😉). If I could work off lead sheets in the “intro/head/improvs/head/outro” style it would be better than just memorizing 4 hours of music. Since I have proved that I am not very good at disciplined learning, I will approach my goal by sight reading at each of my ~one hour weekly zooms with Gary, and trying also in my ~daily practice.

Just a word of warning: I am a fluent sight reader on the violin, and a disadvantage of that is that you essentially end up with no repertoire you could play without score sheet: notes pass from the score to the fingers without sticking in the brain.

Lead sheed work is certainly a good intermediate level. For me the danger with accordion then is that I miss out on bass runs and other variations.

There is something to be said for memorizing 4 weeks of repertoire if that turns out to be a workable strategy for you.

Good points Dak! It would seem that both memorizing and working from lead sheets/sheet music are valuable skills when playing long gigs.

For today's zoom at 12:00 CST, 18:00 GMT. Hope it works!

I'll be there! Due to me shuffling around my setup upstairs, I'll just be joining via a very basic laptop downstairs, where I am also re-designing my basement studio area. No playing for me just a headset, but if we ever decide to do this again and do it as a "bring your accordion", next time I can be better prepared. :)

Cannot promise I join (as I am at my father's), but if I do, I don't even have a headset, just a laptop including speakers. If I remember correctly, Zoom is reasonably good about autoducking me to make me a non-distraction when not speaking, but I can likely turn off the built-in mics manually until the time I have something to say.

Cool! I will not be recording. If someone else wants to, be my guest!
