Thankyou. I'll remember that, keep it simple and keep it stradella for dancing. Good thinking. I play a lot with melodeonista's who seem to insist on using as many basses as they possible can! They never notice when I'm lazy though!

Walker:
That’s a nice bit of research to locate, what sounds like the original tune used for ‘Aye Fond Kiss’ (words by Robert Burns). I am aware that many of his poems were set to music long after his death but it is also known that he set his words to contemporary music/song as well. My observation that the setting of the tune at the head of this thread was apure gut feeling formed after almost 80 years of listening to Burns music performed at every level of expertise at traditional Burns Suppers, Burns Society functions, concerts etc.
First and foremost Burns was a Scot, who wrote solely in Scots and had a healthy disdain of contemporary politics and ecclesiastical matters expressed through his work in such masterpieces as ‘Holy Willie’s Prayer’ and ‘Ye Jacobites By Name’ etc. I miss very much the reduced exposure of his work in recent years in the main media as well as that of other contemporaries such as Carolina Oliphant (The Rowan Tree, The Auld Hoose, The Laird o’ Cockpen etc.). I suppose it’s a compliment of sorts that even the Irish would like to ‘own’ him: https://www.irishsongs.com/lyrics.php?Action=view&Song_id=139
