For what it's worth: electronic accordions and acoustics are like apples and pears: not the same ( like electric guitars vs acoustic or film vs digital photography)
Some prefer one, some another.
Both have their merits and demerits! :)
 
I use both, for different reasons! I find the digital useful in large gigs: just plug it, no fiddling with mics and feedback. When I have gigs that call for a diatonic, one box does it all in all keys! I used to carry 4 or 5 boxes to match the tune keys when playing with singers. Now I can change keys with the push of a button or two. With the chromatic, I can also add orchestral sounds (sounds a bit cheesy but it works!).

currently that is still the case (and it will probably stay like that)

But hypothetically when the same would happen as with digital photography (or with keys/synths), the electronic version surpasses the old technique...who knows what would happen.

electronic pros: easy for practicing / plug n play for gigging
acoustic pros: doesn't need batteries, arguably more expression / better sound

The Hohner Conservatory does a full study track on V-accordion. So it's not all bullocks.

Go for it! Or its little sibling the FR-1xb, well worth every penny. I own two Roland, a FR-18 and FR-1xb and love them.
