Do new accordions improve with playing?

I'm not sure where I heard it, but I think I recall someone saying that a new accordion will only really begin to sing after it has been played for a few months....is this true?

If it's brand new it will also start to smell better!

Yes they do play better after about 6 months as the bellows loosen up a bit, but that smell, at least in my case, is identical to what I smell today over 40+ years later.
