The piano in Folk Music seems to divide opinion. I'm not really a fan of it for "Listening" music, but for "Dancing" music I think it can sound absolutely fine. Speaking as a dancer, I like the music to be on time and clearly accented, a good pianist can do this without overpowering the other musicians with heavy handed plinking and plonking! The same can be said for other non-folky instruments such as the sax and maybe the clarinette.
