FR-8xb diatonic mapping

This may sound like a strange question. But can I take the tex-mex sounds provided by the fr-8xb roms and create a program or set with the keymaps reworked so that they respond like a diatonic including the bisonorous effect of different notes on bellows in and out?

There are certain techniques that would be impossible (at least for me) to reproduce with a chromatic layout and I would like to know if I could make those available with the fr-8 instrument. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Wow, I guess the question was stranger than I thought. :) I ordered my 8xb I can't wait until it gets here. I don't know how configurable / customizeable the keymaps and samples are but I guess I'll find out when it gets here.

You can download the manual this very minute and see for yourself.....
I don't remember diatonic being an option when I perused the manual.

I agree - certainly nothing I've seen for my FR1XB.
Also the thought of wielding 27 pounds of hardware to simulate a diatonic seems(*) quite a challenge.
Diatonic makers like to keep below about 11 lbs and even then with bigger boxes there's a lot of cross row playing.
I wonder why you rejected the FR18? It doesn't seem to have been a roaring success but if it's diatonic you're after...

(*) with one or two notable but marginal exceptions

Oh thanks for the replies guys. No, I have a diatonic. It's the chromatic that I'm after however, if I like the sound of the 8xb and I can get the diatonic techniques out of it as well I'd sell my diatonic to offset the price of the 8xb a bit.

Yeah, I wouldn't suspect to have diatonic settings built into the 8xb but if you could setup your own keymaps you could create it yourself. I think I saw a post on here by someone that mapped their fr-18 to chromatic B-system. I may go ask them since I'm assuming the principles are the same.

Thanks again for the replies. It turns out that my Roland dealer informed me that the 8xb's are on back order and that there won't be any available until June. :( I'm picking up a Nova III in the meantime so that I can start my chromatic b-system learning and hopefully be able to pick up the 8xb later this year. I'm excited to start learning the chromatic.
