fr8x roland accordion

On my 8X I ended up with a "jewel" on register switches 1, 5, 10, and 14. One could do away with 1 and 14, but I think it keeps the look a bit more symmetrical. This arrangement lets me find the proper registers easily, even with my fading eyesight. Nice thing about the dollar store "jewels" is that they pop off very easily without leaving any (or little) residue. I find too many colors too distracting, so have just used a nice blue on all 4 marked buttons.

That's almost the same as I did, except I used 3 red adhesive dots with dots at 4, 8, and 12.

Has anyone seen the Korg variant of an accordion to compete with Roland and Bugari?
Our new friend Cory has one and has discussed it in this thread:

He seems open to questions about it too….

Good luck!

Hi everyone, I need help.

I met a accordionist at the retirement village I play at who has a passion for playing but had a major accident and is in a wheel chair. He loved my user programs that are based on the 4 Balkan sets and the Dallape sets.

I exported all my sets and user programs on a USB and loaded it on his FR8X. My orchestration sets work on his accordion but not Balkan 1-4 or the Dallape expansion sets. That means the UPGs that pull the expansion sets also don’t work.

His software is the latest version and I reset his sets to factory default but no joy.

I so much want him to give all of my sets and UPGs to him - if anyone can provide me with guidance, greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
Karl

he needs to have the Balkan and Dallape wavebanks installed
in 2 of the 4 expansion areas for any UPG's that call on them
to work

he apparently has the orchestra extension installed, since they worked for you

so bring the factory expansion files next time and re-install them
then re-load your custom upg's (they might get overwritten)

By default, the Balkan or Dallapé expansions are not installed from the factory. Install them, and change nothing else, and it should all work.

Before working on someone else's 8X... always, Always, ALWAYS make a backup of his accordion before touching it.

Much appreciated - he will be so happy once the sounds work.

Thanks Jerry, I did make a backup of all his SETS and UPGs. There was nothing there, only what came with the accordion, but to be safe I backed them up. I installed the Balkan sets into positions 97-100 downloaded from the Roland website (makes it easier going backwards to access these) - I was surprised that I could see the Sets and scroll through the registers in each Balkan Set, but no sound (same for Dallape sets). The owner bought the FR8X second hand so he did not know its history. All other Sets work except for the Balkan and Dallape.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to check the Expansion Sets and will go through the process to load them ...

FR-8X: How to load sound expansions

1) Plug the USB flash drive containing your sound expansion files into the USB host port on your FR-8x accordion

2) Go to the Utility menu. It is menu 15.

3) once in the Utility go to the Expansion Sound menu which is 15.10

4) in this menu choose the location you want to load the sound files. There are 4 possible "slots" for loading expansion sounds. It will say press write once you chose the file location. This will load the .bin file containing the sounds.

5) Next you will have to load the sound sets on the USB flash drive into the FR-8X user programs. Go to the import Menu 15.8.

  • Well Done!

When you first turn on the 8X, it shows the installed sets. This menu is also available in the menu. If I may suggest, from the same site you got the expansion sets, download and reference the PDF manuals.

Thank you very much Jerry, I have all of the documentation from when I set up my FR8X 5 months ago (before that I had a 4X) It all makes total sense now, especially when people like you with experience provide guidance. What I have noticed is that the majority of FR8X owners I know just have the default Sets. I have used the Roland editor to layer and balance my sounds. I have also integrated and modified the brilliant sounds I purchased from Michael Bridge. I love rich sounds and if you could recommend some, I would purchase them to expand my library. Regards Karl

Only one name for nice 8X sets... Richard Noel. That said, I heard a rumour on here that he has recently suffered a huge personal loss, so I would be patient and wait a while before expecting a response from him... but go ahead and reach out on HIS WEBSITE.

Oh no. Do let us know what you can release. Richard is a very nice and talented fellow. I use this 8X sets all the time. And if one is not fitting, it's easy to modify. Last I heard a bit earlier (last month?) was that he was working on Korg sets.

Just to add, Richard is stilll in business.
I decided to upgrade my FR3x as I had his sets on my Fr8x and they arrived this morning with a personal message from Richard.

Hi Pipemajor, I sent Richard a couple of emails a few weeks ago to BakersfieldAccordion@gmail.com; richard@noelaccordion.com as I want to purchase his SETs for my FR-8X. Just checking that these are the correct or best contact details for Richard?
