fr8x roland accordion

Hi Pipemajor, I sent Richard a couple of emails a few weeks ago to BakersfieldAccordion@gmail.com; richard@noelaccordion.com as I want to purchase his SETs for my FR-8X. Just checking that these are the correct or best contact details for Richard?
I would suggest reading this thread:

Hi,
Did you get a response from him?
Maybe I'll try to text him on your behalf.
Simon

Guys, if you want to make the purchase, there is no need to reach out to him. This time of year is super busy for many... add a catastrophy and personal responses are going to take a 2nd spot. He seems to be responding to sales oriented responses, not to emails because he likely has that process automated.

Go for it and enjoy, leave the texts, emails and what not till after the purchase.

Exactly what I did and had an immediate response.

Thank you both for the feedback. I have placed the order via PayPal and sent him a copy of the receipt with my FR-8X details. The only reason I was trying to contact Richard was in response to his instructions on his website … “To order, just email me at the email address above, and whenever you are ready to make the purchase I will send you an invoice through Paypal. You can pay from your own Paypal account or with a credit card.”

Further update - I received from Richard the UPGs and detailed instructions overnight. Thank you to all for the advice through prior posts.

I have loaded all of Richard Noel's UPGs and spent 3 hours going through each sound as there is a lot there to choose from.
They are all excellent and my dilemma now is which sounds do I copy to Banks 1 & 2 for quick access when playing live. A good problem to have!!!

Hi All, I have been doing lots of backups on my Roland FR-8X as I now have UPGs from Michael Bridge and Richard Noel - excellent UPGs from both professionals. Every time I do a backup of my SETs and UPGs, the date and time stamp on the files is 1/01/2013 12:00AM. I searched through the manuals but there does not appear to be a setting to change the date. Has anyone had success in changing the date? Regards, Karl

One of the things annoying me with the Ketron MS40 and MS80, but I guess a RTC (real time clock) was not considered worth the purchasing cost, setup hassle, and battery current (those boxes keep their settings over decades with a single coin cell). Most people probably care more about the instrument keeping the time in a piece than in a year.

when you compare the two ketron models you most remember that they have been around for a long time and not bang up to date

Incidentally, is it pronounced Key-tron or Ket-tron? I have always said Keytron but in watching a couple of European videos about their arrangers they all pronounce it starting with Ket.

Same thing happened to me for years with my old Alesis SR-16. I called the company Alee-sis for years before discovering that was incorrect.

Germans would pronounce it keh-tron and Italians (where they are actually from) cat-rron.

Well I'm Italian - my father was born in San Martin, Italy. And I speak Spanish.

And after spending two weeks in Italy last year I discovered that I speak and understand exactly ZERO Italian!!!

Hi All, I love playing my FR-8X and now that I am also very comfortable with the software side, if Roland planned an updated version of the FR-8X, I would buy one.

Considering the last major software update was nearly a decade ago, Roland could introduce physical enhancements and software updates to make the FR-8X even more versatile e.g. more expansion sounds, below straps, play MIDI files rather than just mp3, updated editor, additional mini registers e.g. Oct-up/Oct-down etc.

The reason I cancelled buying a Bugari Evo was the might and longevity of the Roland Corporation in terms of support and hopefully learnings from their acquisition of Dallape. Bugari is here today but could be gone tomorrow.

Does anyone know if the FR-4X was the last of the Roland V-Accordions?

Also, has anyone tried the new Korg?

I'm with you on these statements. I love my Roland FR-8X despite its decade-old technology. It does everything I want. Sure there are little nuances that could be better but all in all I can achieve most things with it. I've been without it for a month as the MIDI board is being replaced and I am about sick and tired of only my acoustics. I get it back in a couple days and can't wait.

Much as I've tried with the Korg I just can't warm up to it - at any cost. I've watched dozens of videos of it and in-depth Korg explanations of the menus along with multiple performances and there's just not much there in terms of upgrades for me. Certainly not for $8000 US.

A new Roland at $6K would make a clean sweep of the category in my opinion. I've noticed the Korg thread here has basically atrophied away for the past month. Maybe more users need to get them to start it up again.

I think it was the too-Roland-like screen and menus that really turned me off. I'll play one eventually and make a determination at that point, but right now I just can't wait to get my FR-8X back.
