Good morning all,
Does anyone have a suggestion or lead regarding the purchase of a vintage internal Terlinde accordion mic? Or a repair person who can assess the one I have in my vintage Excelsior Continental AC Artist Line instrument? Is there a new mic out there which will be a good replacement for the Terlinde mic? Many Thanks!

hey Sally, how you been doin' ?

Terlinde was famous for a time so i suppose they were a cut above back then..
Mic tech has advanced so much that all those early types pale by comparison,
but if i were going to do or replace a single internal Mic to keep things
sort of original, i would probably use a Shure Green Bullet element.

These are available as a replacement part item from Shure, and
it is the element designed for their Harmonica Microphone . It is nice
and wide and can handle high air pressure without distortion..
ir has a fairly low profile, i have used them in the Bass chambers of
several of my Gig accordions over the decades. They are dynamic type
and nearly indestructible

naturally any re-furb on your old Excelsior should include new wiring
and perhaps a new jack, spray cleaning the potentiometer(s) with
electronic contact cleaner or replacing them if they are scratchy
and won't settle back down.. remember to leave a bit of slack everywhere
possible for the wiring and seal where it comes through the baffle
with a bit of reedwax. Improve the circuit with a 1 microfarad Tantalum
capacitor where the wiring solders to the + Switchcraft output jack connector

ciao
