We're having a little contest, running until the end of March. Please feel free to enter - see the thread in the "I Did That" section of the forum. Don't be shy, have a go!
Phil Cunningham played one of his tunes on Transatlantic Sessions last night play on a Manfrini box. Lots of clear left hand with bass/chord combining, lovely..
Yes, that was very lovely playing. I don't like the look of the box, though - bit like a 1970s sideboard! Not that my sideboard ever sounded that good.
It seems that "Folk music" either makes you very hairy - or bald.
Should I be worried, the way the barber holds the mirror I still have a full head of hair.
I must agree, I record the program for the tunes and use the fast forward on the remote to whizz to the good bits.
The trouble with this series is that I end up whizzing straight to the end without finding anything. :hb
The program seems to be trying to get technical instead of listenable - what do you guys think?
Add into the mix whilst I'm 'into' the accordion, I'm not into 'folk' - no disrespect to others' tastes - so next to nowt there for me.
So I was disappointed & also have to agree with Anyanka in another thread, his Manfrini 'woodalike' looked naff too(on TV at least) IMHO.
He's written some good tunes but I've always preferred other people playing them. He usually plays so fast that the danceability and expressiveness of the music gets lost.
And, with the “wood verses wood and Cellulose debate I found this on the the Manfrini site. Different finishes of celluloid which adds strength to the casing and improves overall sound.

Well Im not sure, Bob, but somebody else posted that the wood Manfrini was a painted finish. Either way I wasnt attracted to it as it looked on the TV. Just my opinion... Ive seen other wooden ones Ive liked the look off, tho - Victoria I think.
