The repertoire and how to practice

Hi Giovanni,

You can find the book here on Amazon. There may be other places too but I don’t know.

Thanks Tom , I'll take a look tomorrow .
I appreciate your help..many thsnks
I don't know other people, but my brain definitely comes up with a lot of answers to questions for me. Mostly early mornings as I am just waking up and review the past day's challenges, it just pops in and says "hey, here you go... do it this way, and it will work fine". Lately, its done it for more than one thing at a time.

Now... if only I could come up with the numbers for the winning lottery, I'd be all set (hear that Jerry's brain??? WINNING LOTTERY NUMBER!) ... :D :D :D
I know a guy who used to pray to the good Lord .. He would say dear Lord above please let me win the jackpot on the Lottery . He never had any luck !
He said in his prayers Lord you let me down again !! I did not win the Lottery !
The good Lord replied you have to meet me half way on this miracle you want me perform...! ..the guy said just tell me what I have to do !
The good Lord replied it would be great help if you bought a ticket.....😇😀👍

A guy that wanted to win the lottery spole to God. He said "God, how old are you?" God replied "To you I am millions of years old, for me, it is just a second"

Then he replied and asked... "God, why am I so poor, couldn't you give me the winning lottery ticket numbers?"

God replied "Give me a second..."

=======

Kidding aside, I could not care less if I won the lottery or not, I am a happy and satisfied man. All that I have is because I worked for it and earned it. If I need more, I know where to go. "Quality over quantity. ;)

not just blindly playing through, hoping you’ll get it eventually. Stop, focus, figure it out and play correctly every time you hit a snag.

Yup, that's basically the crux of it.

Whenever I start to fall into that trap of trying to "brute force" playing a passage correctly by just flailing away and thoughtlessly doing it wrong over and over again, it always makes me think of this Bug Bunny bit:

Sometimes you gotta take a moment to size up the ball before you start swingin'. ⚾

Before you go in the practice room and put on your accordion you have to decide what it is, specifically, you want to accomplish.

“I have taken a break for Christmas. I’m not sure where I am with the tunes I propose for this summer. I will figure out which ones have snags, where, and make a note of them.”

Then you have to develop a plan, or strategy, for today’s practice.

“I will play each one slowly, with eyes closed (where possible), and mark on the sheet what needs to be addressed.”

Then you need to review and reflect on the practice session. Extra points for if you videod your practice and can watch it back.

“I can make a list of which songs need work, in order from worst to least. This list will inform the next sessions, using the same technique.”

1. Make a goal.
2. Make a plan to achieve the goal.
3. Practice intentionally.
4. Review and reflect, informing the goals for tomorrow.

If we all upgrade our practice, the accordionists of this forum will rock it up and move over Taylor Swift!

I read a sample on my phone and bought the paperback so I could mark it up. It’s also available in Kindle or audio. (Or hardcover for $90 if you are so inclined🧐).

With a number of the tips listed here, another valuable piece of advice I've received was to end the practice with a correct play-through of the tune or passage of the tune, no matter how slowly you need to go in order to do that. Leave off with correct play so that your fingers and your mind keep that as a memory until the next practice session.

Practice is an art. I am happy that I learned much of that art from my teacher and that I try my best to impart as much as I can to my students.
