Ok, let’s plan our next forum zoom meeting for the weekend of January 20 and 21.

This could help us organize a time to include people in Asia, Australia. It may mean going with a time not so good for people closer to Europe.

So, in terms of GMT, when is a good time range for you, Dingo, Ffingers?

Thanks for the consideration, Tom, but I will not be “zooming at any time - just one of my many peculiarities ;)
Over to you, Dingo!

I think one can "join" with camera and microphone disabled. Of course it may still feel awkward to listen in when you find yourself in the position where you'd want something not be unsaid that feels relevant to you.

At the moment I'm wide open both days so what is good for the most amount of people is good for me.

Thanks Tim, hope to meet you.

Please, anyone else with suggestions please chime in!

True, it’s possible to join and watch/listen without speaking and/or being seen. No problem.

I am UTC-7 but a serious night owl; last time's was about the earliest I could have come to. Any time between about 1800 to 0800 UTC is fair game here. (But arrange it whenever the people who didn't come last time can come.)

Ok, based on the input I’ve received, let’s go with Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 18:00 UTC. (Same time as last zoom). I’ve purchased a zoom account, so we have as much time as we want. Looking forward to meeting more people ☺️.

Ha, now that my setup is working, I check the calendar. Darn it, wrong week.

Sorry about that, Dak, hope to see you next week!

Sorry for the confusion guys, the next zoom is indeed scheduled for next Saturday, January 20. Good thing because we got a blizzard with about 8 - 10 inches of blowing snow. Got some work to do outside. 🤣

Just a reminder here that the next zoom will be this Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 18:00 UTC. I’ve now got a zoom account so we can go as long as we want. I am happy to organize and host the zooms, and we can figure out the best time/frequency.

I could go with either every week, twice a month, once a month, one week Saturday, one week Sunday. Up to you all. And, since we are all retired dentists, it doesn’t have to be on the weekend. What’s your pleasure?

I think it would be awesome if people played music at the zooms. I am non judgmental and will praise everyone’s playing, I don’t care if you have never played in front of people or are a seasoned professional. We all have something to contribute and learn.

Also, I’m interested in one on one zooms with anyone if you just want to have a casual conversation or play some tunes (although zoom does not work well with playing together, unless one player mutes the mic.). It’s -18 C (0 F) here now under a foot (30 cm) of snow so what better way to while away the day? Pm me if you want!

See you Saturday!

My guess is that twice a month would likely fit the longterm interest/attention curve of most people but that's not more than a guess. There may also be some point in scheduling a show-and-tell start where one or two present what they are working on, interested on, their favorite instrument, possibly a look inside, with the second half then for more general discussion not necessarily related to the starting bit.

Probably depends on the kind of equipment one uses for Zoom whether one can bring something useful across.

With regard to playing together, Jamulus works pretty well but it cannot beat the speed of light. I can showcase stuff (and hopefully still have what it takes to set up a server at one of the locations of Ionos), but an actual session makes sense mostly within several hundred kilometers around a central server. Of course listening in can be done from arbitrary distances.
